Production of a bacteriocin, ulceracin 378, by Corynebacterium ulcerans [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1983
The production of the bacteriocin ulceracin 378 by Corynebacterium ulcerans 378 was demonstrated during the growth of the organism on solid medium. Ulceracin 378 was not found in broth cultures and could not be extracted from the organisms by various solvents and salt solutions.

Corynebacterium ulcerans 0102 carries the gene encoding diphtheria toxin on a prophage different from the C. diphtheriae NCTC 13129 prophage

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2012
Background Corynebacterium ulcerans can cause a diphtheria-like illness, especially when the bacterium is lysogenized with a tox gene-carrying bacteriophage that produces diphtheria toxin. Acquisition of toxigenicity upon phage lysogenization is a common
