New physics, the cosmic ray spectrum knee, and $pp$ cross section measurements
We explore the possibility that a new physics interaction can provide an explanation for the knee just above $10^6$ GeV in the cosmic ray spectrum. We model the new physics modifications to the total proton-proton cross section with an incoherent term ...

The Physics of Cosmic Acceleration [PDF]
The discovery that the cosmic expansion is accelerating has been followed by an intense theoretical and experimental response in physics and astronomy. The discovery implies that our most basic notions about how gravity works are violated on cosmological distance scales. A simple fix is to introduce a cosmological constant into the field equations for

An Assessment of the GLE Alert++ Warning System
Over the last years the Athens Cosmic Ray Group of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens has implemented a warning tool called GLE Alert, which is a highly credible application that issues alerts when a ground level enhancement (GLE) starts ...

We present a review of atmospheric and underground muon flux measurements. The relevance of these data for the atmospheric neutrino flux computation is emphasized. Possible sources of systematic errors in the measurements are discussed, focusing on the sea level muon data. Underground muon data are also reported.

How to use molecular clouds to study the propagation of cosmic rays in the Galaxy
Observations of molecular clouds in the gamma ray domain provide us with a tool to study the distribution of cosmic rays in the Galaxy. This is because cosmic rays can penetrate molecular clouds, undergo hadronic interactions in the dense gas, and ...

Cosmic 21-cm Fluctuations as a Probe of Fundamental Physics
Fluctuations in high-redshift cosmic 21-cm radiation provide a new window for observing unconventional effects of high-energy physics in the primordial spectrum of density perturbations.

Geomagnetic and Cosmic Ray Activity Effect on Heart Rate during the Solar Cycle 24
The number of investigations relevant to the study of geomagnetic activity, solar events, and cosmic rays, i.e., space weather phenomena, and their impact on human health has increased dramatically over the past few years.

We describe similarities in the ontology of quantum physics and of Carl Gustav Jung’s psychology. In spite of the fact that physics and psychology are usually considered as unrelated, in the last century, both of these disciplines have led at the same ...

Fin whale song recordings by onshore seismometers open new horizons for cetacean coastal monitoring
Fin whales, the second largest animal on Earth, produce one of the most intense vocalisations in the animal kingdom. Monitoring these songs using ocean-deployed hydrophones plays an important role in the study of fin whale distribution and social ...
