Propagation in 3D spiral-arm cosmic-ray source distribution models and secondary particle production using PICARD [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We study the impact of possible spiral-arm distributions of Galactic cosmic-ray sources on the flux of various cosmic-ray nuclei throughout our Galaxy. We investigate model cosmic-ray spectra at the nominal position of the sun and at different positions within the Galaxy.

Origin and Propagation of Extremely High Energy Cosmic Rays

open access: yes, 1999
Cosmic ray particles with energies in excess of 10**(20) eV have been detected. The sources as well as the physical mechanism(s) responsible for endowing cosmic ray particles with such enormous energies are unknown.

Fast pH‐Driven Solubilization Method of Realgar (As4S4) to Reduce the Toxicity of Arsenic [As(III)] for Medicinal Purposes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Arsenic trioxide transformed acute promyelocytic leukemia therapy and shows promise against HIV. A new method to solubilize the mineral realgar produces different arsenic species depleting the main arsenic target, nuclear PML protein, and retaining effects on leukemic and HIV reservoir cells, while minimizing off‐target damage.

An Assessment of the GLE Alert++ Warning System

open access: yesAtmosphere
Over the last years the Athens Cosmic Ray Group of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens has implemented a warning tool called GLE Alert, which is a highly credible application that issues alerts when a ground level enhancement (GLE) starts ...

Cosmic String Production Towards the End of Brane Inflation [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Lett. B536 (2002) 185-192, 2002
Towards the end of the brane inflationary epoch in the brane world, cosmic strings (but not texture, domain walls or monopoles) are copiously produced during brane collision. These cosmic strings are D$p$-branes with $(p-1)$ dimensions compactified. We elaborate on this prediction of the superstring theory description of the brane world. Using the data

A Soft‐Soft Contact Triboelectric Nanogenerator with a Ternary Four‐Phase Structure for Self‐Powered High‐Efficiency Dust Removal on Mars

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The frequent dust storms and charged dust particles on Mars pose significant challenges to the power generation efficiency and service life of solar panels during exploration missions. This paper proposes a novel wind‐driven ternary four‐phase soft‐soft contact triboelectric nanogenerator (FPS‐TENG) for dust removal.

Cosmic internal symmetry in a finite universe [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
Cosmic internal symmetry (COINS) relates cosmic vacuum, dark matter, baryons and radiation, in a finite universe. Evidence for COINS comes from the concordance data, including the WMAP data. COINS is behind 1)the cosmic coincidence, 2)the spatial flatness, 3)cosmic entropy, 4)initial amplitude of cosmic perturbations.

High energy astroparticle physics for high school students

open access: yes, 2015
The questions about the origin and type of cosmic particles are not only fascinating for scientists in astrophysics, but also for young enthusiastic high school students.
