Radiation‐Induced Degradation in Polymeric Materials: Alterations in Physical–Chemical Properties and Their Effects on Electrical Performance of Insulation Systems

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper investigates the effects of radiation on polymeric materials used as insulation systems in electrical equipment such as cables for nuclear and particle accelerator applications. After a detailed description of the physics of radiation‐induced damage in the polymeric matrix, a comprehensive analysis of the physical–chemical and ...

Observations of Large Scale Sidereal Anisotropy in 1 and 11 TeV cosmic rays from the MINOS experiment

open access: yes, 2011
The MINOS Near and Far Detectors are two large, functionally-identical, steel-scintillating sampling calorimeters located at depths of 220 mwe and 2100 mwe respectively.

Machine learning assisted masking of parasitic signals in Bragg coherent diffraction imaging

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
Bragg coherent diffraction imaging measurement sometimes requires manual and time‐consuming cleaning of parasitic signals termed `aliens' from nearby particles that can affect the phase retrieval reconstruction. Here, we propose using a clustering technique to speed up this process while keeping the resolution of the reconstructed object high.

Prospects of detecting cosmic ray up-scattered dark matter with DUNE

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
Detection of sub-GeV dark matter (DM) particles in direct detection experiments is inherently difficult, as their low kinetic energies in the galactic halo are insufficient to produce observable recoils of the heavy nuclei in the detectors.

Grand unification and possible matter-antimatter domain structure in the universe [PDF]

open access: yes
The theory and basic concepts for the development of a matter-antimatter domain cosmology are outlined within the framework of the grand unified gauge theory paradigm.

Measurements of the Cosmic Ray Composition with Air Shower Experiments

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper we review air shower data related to the mass composition of cosmic rays above 10$^{15}$ eV. After explaining the basic relations between air shower observables and the primary mass and energy of cosmic rays, we present different approaches

A North Greenland‐wide in situ cosmogenic 14C ice sheet chronology since the Lateglacial

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Knowledge of the glacial history of the North Greenland Ice Sheet is crucial due to its high sensitivity to climate change. However, because the ice sheet in this region is predominantly cold‐based, resulting in low erosion rates, using 10Be exposure dating to establish reliable ice sheet chronologies has proven very challenging due to nuclide ...

Cosmic ray sources and detectors

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal Special Topics
Abstract The origin of cosmic rays has remained an enduring mystery in astrophysics since their discovery by Victor Hess in 1912. However, extensive studies on the energy spectrum, mass composition, and angular distributions of cosmic rays have been conducted through both space-based and ground-based experiments.
