Traces of Extra Dimensions in Cosmology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this thesis, we discuss the observational consequences of extra dimensions on cosmological phenomena. We begin with an overview of extra dimensions, from the initial ideas of Kaluza and Klein to the more recent concept of braneworld models and in ...

Outreach and educational activities within the EEE cosmic ray network

open access: yes, 2022
The Extreme Energy Events (EEE) network consists in a sparse array of telescopes based on Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers, installed in high school buildings all over the Italian territory and at CERN.

Looking at Us Through Their Eyes. The Analytical Process from Ethnographic Perspectives1

open access: yesJournal of Analytical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract This article looks at the analytical situation through the Others’ eyes—through examples from contemporary ethnographies of foreign cultures. It discusses the following issues: a) The analogy between the ontological worlds of the dead, ghosts, animals and dreams in “primitive populations” and the analytical psychological descriptions of the ...

Neutrino Target-of-Opportunity Observations with Space-based and Suborbital Optical Cherenkov Detectors

open access: yes, 2022
Cosmic-ray accelerators capable of reaching ultra-high energies are expected to also produce very-high energy neutrinos via hadronic interactions within the source or its surrounding environment.

Prospects of detecting cosmic ray up-scattered dark matter with DUNE

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
Detection of sub-GeV dark matter (DM) particles in direct detection experiments is inherently difficult, as their low kinetic energies in the galactic halo are insufficient to produce observable recoils of the heavy nuclei in the detectors.

Application of Multi‐Method Dating for Understanding the Gravettian North of Moravia, Central Europe

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article presents the results of integrating three methods to assess the age of the Upper Palaeolithic site of Pietraszyn 11 (SW Poland), close to the Moravian Gate. Sediment chronology determined using optically stimulated luminescence produced promising, yet ambiguous results (51.0 ± 3.7 to 20.3 ± 0.7 ka).

Refining the timing of Middle Pleistocene (MIS 12 to MIS 6) ice advances into northern central Europe: sedimentological analysis and single‐grain luminescence dating of glaciotectonic complexes and tunnel‐valley fills

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We summarize the current state of knowledge on the age of the Middle Pleistocene ice advances into northern central Europe and provide 25 new single‐grain feldspar luminescence ages of Elsterian and Saalian glacigenic sediments to constrain the age of the ice advances and their tentative correlation with marine isotope stages/substages.

DAQ platform based on SoC-FPGA for high resolution time stamping in cosmic ray detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Accurate timing in cosmic ray detection is critical for reconstruction of events from multiple scattered detectors. Since most of the detectors dedicated to study cosmic rays generate continuous analog signals, a precise timing depends on the sampling ...

A bifacial paradise—The site of Ochtmissen, Germany, and its lithic assemblage in the context of the last glacial (early MIS 4) in the north‐central European Lowland

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The Palaeolithic site of Ochtmissen (Lower Saxony, Germany) was excavated in fluvial terrace deposits during the winter of 1993/1994. The current study presents, for the first time, a thorough analysis of the lithic assemblage, encompassing its primary technological and typological characteristics, as well as the type and age of the fluvial deposits ...
