Mass sensitive observables of simulated cosmic ray air showers

open access: yes, 2022
Schroeder, Frank G.Extensive cosmic ray research has been performed over the course of the last century, yet the origin of the highest energy cosmic rays remains unknown.

Characterization of coesite‐bearing impact melt glass from the Hapcheon crater, Korea: Trimodal phase architecture, shock metamorphism, and implications for 40Ar/39Ar geochronology

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract We present the first micrometer‐scale, phase‐resolved compositional characterization of impact melt glass from the Hapcheon crater (~1.4 km apparent diameter), the first confirmed impact structure on the Korean Peninsula, integrating EPMA‐WDS (5 μm spot), confocal Raman spectroscopy (<1 μm spot), XRD, and 40Ar/39Ar step‐heating geochronology ...

PyMAP: Python-Based Data Analysis Package with a New Image Cleaning Method to Enhance the Sensitivity of MACE Telescope

open access: yesGalaxies
Observations of Very High Energy (VHE) gamma ray sources using the ground-based Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs) play a pivotal role in understanding the non-thermal energetic phenomena and acceleration processes under extreme ...

Human Destiny and the Natural Law in St Maximus the Confessor: A Contribution to Orthodox Christian Humanism

open access: yesModern Theology, EarlyView.
Abstract Orthodox Christian theology in general prides itself on bearing the mantle of patristic thought. Orthodox theological anthropology is no different, often drawing on Greek patristic sources in presenting its vision of the human being. Yet Orthodox anthropology can also broadly be categorized as personalist in ways that are not necessarily so ...

A new Anthropocene aesthetics: Mediating Harman, Morton, and Boysen

open access: yesOrbis Litterarum, EarlyView.
Abstract Practitioners of Object‐Oriented Ontology (OOO) have critiqued the metaphysical assumptions of contemporary poetry, and particularly the position of the lyric speaker. Scholars such as Graham Harman and Timothy Morton have positioned themselves as critics of these lyric sensibilities. In recent years, concerns have risen around their critiques

The UHE cosmic ray energy spectrum measured by the Pierre Auger Observatory

open access: yes, 2011
The UHE cosmic ray spectrum has been measured with the Pierre Auger Observatory using two complementary techniques. Those techniques are described, emphasising the advantages and cross-checks afforded by the hybrid nature of the Observatory.

Photodegradation of commercial insect repellents containing DEET and IR‐3535 under ultraviolet light associated or not with chemical ultraviolet filters evaluated by Raman spectroscopy

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the photodegradation of commercial insect repellents containing DEET and IR‐3535 under UV‐A and UV‐B irradiation using Raman spectroscopy. Pure DEET and IR‐3535 showed intrinsic photostability, whereas DEET diluted in ethanol and a commercial DEET‐based formulation exhibited significant spectral changes after UV exposure.

The Problem of Psychonomic Harmony

open access: yesPhilosophy and Phenomenological Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The problem of nomological harmony is the problem of explaining why the laws of nature match or apply to the states of the universe in a way that results in temporal evolution. The problem of psychophysical harmony is the problem of explaining why phenomenal states are paired with physical states and other phenomenal states in surprisingly ...
