Estimates of patient costs related with population morbidity: Can indirect costs affect the results? [PDF]

open access: yes
A number of health economics works require patient cost estimates as a basic information input. However the accuracy of cost estimates remains in general unspecified.

Optimal Grazing Exclusion Duration to Enhance Soil Carbon Sequestration in Degraded Grasslands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Across China, grazing exclusion reaches the national mean soil organic carbon recovery benchmark sooner in high‐MAP regions (> 500 mm), but recovery is much slower where MAP < 300 mm. Scaling this strategy to 70% of China's degraded grasslands would sequester about 1.52 Pg of soil carbon over 10 years—roughly 17% of annual global fossil‐fuel emissions.

Equivalence of Resource/Opportunity Egalitarianism and Welfare Egalitarianism in Quasilinear Domains [PDF]

open access: yes
We study the allocation of indivisible goods when monetary transfers are possible and preferences are quasilinear. We show that the only allocation mechanism (upto Pareto-indifference) that satisfies the axioms supporting resource and opportunity ...

Molecularly Engineered Phenoxazinone‐Skeleton Cascade‐Activated NIR Probes for Monitoring Fe2+/Viscosity in Ferroptosis‐Mediated Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A series of Fe2+/viscosity cascade‐activated NIR fluorescence probes (NP1–5) are synthesized, and NP3 is selected for its optimal properties. To verify application of NP3 in ferroptosis intervention in PD, PQR NPs, is constructed by NP3 and quercetin self‐assembling.

Peroxidase‐Mimicking Nanozymes for Rapid Detection of Infectious Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Peroxidase‐mimicking nanozymes (PMNs) have emerged as robust and versatile materials for rapid infectious disease diagnostics. This review highlights the rational design and controlled synthesis of PMNs, summarizes key biomarkers relevant to infectious diseases, examines their integration into diverse rapid detection platforms, and highlights ...

Cost-Benefit Studies use scarce resources too: some lessons from a study of forested wetlands in the Moreton region [PDF]

open access: yes
Although proposed developments which may adversely affect environmental assets are increasingly subjected to scrutiny through the application of an environmental assessment technique such as cost-benefit analysis, little consideration has been given to ...

Fabrication of High‐Density Multimodal Neural Probes Based on Heterogeneously Integrated CMOS

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A chiplet‐based methodology democratizes active neural probe development on standard bulk CMOS services. This yields the first probe combining high‐density electrophysiology (416 electrodes) with calcium imaging (832 photodiodes) and complete on‐chip signal processing across 13 shanks.

Assessing Emission Allocation in Europe: An Interactive Simulation Approach [PDF]

open access: yes
Implementation of an EU-wide emissions trading system by means of National Allocation Plans is at the core of European environmental policy agenda. Member States are faced with the problem of allocating their national emission budgets under the EU Burden

High‐Throughput Screening and Interpretable Machine Learning for Rational Design of Bimetallic Catalysts for Methane Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Methane's efficient catalytic removal is vital for sustainable development. Bimetallic catalysts, though promising for methane activation, pose a design challenge due to their complex compositional space. This work introduces an integrated framework that combines high‐throughput density functional theory (DFT) and interpretable machine ...

Equity as a Prerequisite for Stable Cooperation in a Public-Good Economy - The Core Revisited [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we explore the relationship between an equitable distribution of the cost shares in public-good provision on the one hand and the core property of an allocation on the other. In particular we show that it is an inhomogeneous distribution of
