The Use of Costal Cartilage in Rhinoplasty
Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics of North AmericaAutologous cartilage can be easily and safely harvested as a reliable source of cartilage in rhinoplasty through a small, well-hidden incision. Rib cartilage can be utilized during a primary rhinoplasty when there is insufficient cartilage from the septum or often in revisional nasal surgeries where the initial septal cartilage has previously been used

Calcification of the Costal Cartilages
The British Journal of Radiology, 1939Calcification of the costal cartilages is a subject of interest, as, with the possible exception of the pharyngeal cartilages, it is unique in showing ossification taking place throughout adult life. It is shown that contrary to commonly accepted views, the calcification is not perichondral, but is central, and is in the nature of a true ossification ...

Cartilage grafts are used for many purposes. In assessing the defect to be filled with costal cartilage, some factors must be taken into account. The length of the defect can extend up to 6–7 cm; a larger defect would require multiple grafts or bone grafts (usually vascularized).

Cough-induced costal cartilage fracture
Clinical Imaging, 2019We present two cases of atraumatic costal cartilage fracture secondary to violent coughing. Although costal cartilage fractures due to trauma and bony rib fractures due to violent coughing have been described, to our knowledge there have been no prior reported cases of cough-induced costal cartilage fracture.

Perichondrial Arthroplasty Incorporating Costal Cartilage
Journal of Hand Surgery, 1995A technique of IP joint arthroplasty is described using costal cartilage with accompanying perichondrium. All patients presented following trauma to the IP joints; their ages ranging from 15 to 45 years. Five out of six cases showed improvement of symptoms and function following reconstruction of the traumatized joint.

Rhinoplasty Using Autologous Costal Cartilage
Facial Plastic Surgery, 2013Most Latin American patients looking to have a primary septorhinoplasty share common characteristics in relation to an incorrect projection of the nasal tip complex and a low dorsal line. Thus, the frequent use of structural techniques and of surgical enhancement techniques becomes necessary to improve the nasal contour.
