Safety of Irradiated Homologous Costal Cartilage Graft in Cleft Rhinoplasty
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2020Background: Autologous cartilage grafts have a low risk of infection and extrusion in cleft rhinoplasty. However, harvesting autologous cartilage involves donor-site morbidity and increased time under anesthesia.

Cartilage grafts are used for many purposes. In assessing the defect to be filled with costal cartilage, some factors must be taken into account. The length of the defect can extend up to 6–7 cm; a larger defect would require multiple grafts or bone grafts (usually vascularized).

Costal Cartilage Grafts in Rhinoplasty
Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 2016Cartilage grafts are regularly used in rhinoplasty. Septal and auricular donor sites are commonly used. Many situations compel the surgeon to use other alternative donor sites, including revision rhinoplasty and trauma. Many patients have a small amount of native septal cartilage and are unable to provide adequate septal cartilage to be used for ...

Prevention of Autologous Costal Cartilage Graft Warping in Secondary Rhinoplasty
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2020Background: Autogenous costal cartilage grafts (ACCG) are frequently used in secondary rhinoplasty; however, these grafts tend to warp. The objective of this study is to systematically evaluate current interventions to prevent warping of ACCGs and to assess long-term outcomes with their use ...

Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2021
Graft use is inevitable in some primary and secondary rhinoplasty cases with cartilage or bone deficiency. Although rib graft is one of the best graft sources, it has several disadvantages. The purpose of this study is to minimize the risks of using rib grafts.Between 2018 and 2020, a total of 21 patients aged between 25 and 55 have undergone revision ...

Costal Cartilage Grafting for Dorsal Augmentation
2013The aesthetic and functional implications of an appropriate dorsal contour are immense and contribute significantly to the overall rhinoplasty results. The authors discuss anatomy of the upper, middle, and lower thirds of the nose, goals for augmentation, materials used for dorsal augmentation, evaluation of the patient, harvesting the grafts ...

The use of autogenous costal cartilage graft in septorhinoplasty
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 2007INTRODUCTIONReconstructive septorhinoplasty in complex nasal deformities often requires harvesting a large amount of tissue for grafting. Autogenous septal cartilage has generally been considered the gold standard grafting material. The aim of this paper was to report our experience with the use of costal cartilage grafts in cases with significant ...

The Survival of Costal Cartilage Graft in Laryngotracheal Reconstruction
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1986Acquired subglottic stenosis in children is a difficult problem. One of the successful procedures used to correct this condition is an autogenous costal cartilage graft to the subglottis and upper trachea. The fate of the cartilage graft is not known, despite the good results of the procedure.

Irradiated Homologous Costal Cartilage: Versatile Grafting Material for Rhinoplasty
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2003For most surgeons, nasal septal cartilage is the first choice in septoplasty. However, when this source is depleted, an alloplastic implant material might be preferable over other autogenous donor sites in order to avoid additional scars, morbidity, and lengthened operating time.

Use of Costal Cartilage Cantilever Grafts in Negroid Rhinoplasties
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1991Dorsal augmentation and nasal tip refinement are important objectives in Negroid rhinoplasty. Use of a costal cartilage cantilever graft will achieve these objectives. We report on our experience in 19 patients. The technique offers an excellent solution to supplying the large amount of material often required to adequately augment the dorsum in these ...
