At least one writer (1), however, finds a forerunner in Ventura Pascual Ferrer, who published in 1798 a series of eight letters in Un viagero universal (2), a periodical of Madrid. His purpose was to correct some erroneous statements respecting his country made by the editor of the paper, Pedro Estala.
