Random-walk model of cotransport
Physical Review E, 2020We present a statistical mechanical model to describe the dynamics of an arbitrary cotransport system. Our starting point was the alternating access mechanism, which suggests the existence of six states for the cotransport cycle. Then we determined the 14 transition probabilities between these states, including a leak pathway, and used them to write a ...

Computational analysis of models for cotransport
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1984The order of substrate interaction with a cotransport carrier is studied by numerically fitting theoretical models to empirical data for a Na+-D-glucose pathway. Our analysis is based on a least-squares minimization routine developed at CERN, and uses data derived from tracer flux of substrate under equilibrium exchange conditions.

Sodium–glucose cotransporter inhibitors and oxidative stress: An update
Journal of Cellular Physiology, 2018Sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are therapeutic agents that have been used recently to reduce tubular absorption of glucose, leading to enhanced glycosuria, resulting in the reduction of blood glucose and improved diabetes control ...

Molecular Mechanisms of NaCl Cotransport
Annual Review of Physiology, 1996Electroneutral Na-(K)-Cl cotransporters are present in most cell types, where they play an important role in both sodium-chloride absorption and secretion and cell volume regulation. Recent advances in the molecular identification of these cotransporters have provided a new level of insight into the mechanisms of sodium-chloride-coupled cotransport and

Sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are an antihyperglycemic drug with diuretic properties. We recently reported that an SGLT2 inhibitor ameliorated extracellular fluid expansion with a transient increase in urinary Na+ excretion.

Renal potassium-chloride cotransporters
Current Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension, 2001The electroneutral cotransport of potassium and chloride is mediated by potassium-chloride transporters, which are encoded by members of the gene family of cation-chloride cotransporters. A significant body of evidence argues for swelling-activated, basolateral potassium-chloride transport in the proximal tubule and thick ascending limb, with a ...

The Electroneutral Cation–Chloride Cotransporters
Journal of Experimental Biology, 1998ABSTRACT Electroneutral cation–chloride cotransporters are widely expressed and perform a variety of physiological roles. A novel gene family of five members, encompassing a Na+–Cl− transporter, two Na+–K+–2Cl− transporters and two K+–Cl− cotransporters, encodes these membrane proteins; homologous genes have also been identified in a ...

Regulation of Na+/Glucose Cotransporters
Journal of Experimental Biology, 1997ABSTRACT Na+/glucose cotransporters (SGLTs) are expressed in the small intestine and the proximal renal tubule, where they play a central role in the absorption of glucose and galactose from food and the reabsorption of glucose from the glomerular filtrate.

Na+–sulfate cotransporter SLC13A1
Pflügers Archiv - European Journal of Physiology, 2013Sulfate is essential for normal physiology. The kidney plays a major role in sulfate homeostasis. Sulfate is freely filtered and strongly reabsorbed in the proximal tubule. The apical membrane Na(+)-sulfate cotransporter NaS1 (SLC13A1) mediates sulfate (re)absorption across renal proximal tubule and small intestinal epithelia.

Sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors regulate ketone body metabolism via inter‐organ crosstalk
Diabetes, obesity and metabolism, 2019To investigate sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i)‐induced changes in ketogenic enzymes and transporters in normal and diabetic mice models.
