?-Glucanases in developing cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) fibres

Planta, 1985
Cotton fibres possess several β-glucanase activities which appear to be associated with the cell wall, but which can be partially solubilised in buffers. The main activity detected was that of an exo-(1→3)-β-D-glucanase (EC 3.2.1.58) but which also had the characteristics of a β-glucosidase (EC 3.2.1.21). Endo-(1→3)-β-D-glucanase activity (EC 3.2.1.39)

Nutrient requirement of Bt. cotton (Gossypium hirsutum)

Indian Journal of Agronomy, 2001
A field experiment was conducted on Ver tisols of Dharwad, Karnataka during the rainy seasons of 2007 and 2008, to ascertain the nutrient requirement of Bt cotton ( Gossypium hirsutum L.) with the recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF, 1206060 kg N P O K O/ha) advocated to the conventional non-Bt cotton hybrid.

Transgenic Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum)

2000
Modern cotton cultivars are grown worldwide, primarily in tropical and subtropical regions. Asia (including the former Soviet Union) produces the largest amount of cotton, followed by North America, South America, Europe, and Australia. Cotton has long been valued as a crop because it produces fibers that can be spun and woven into fabric.

The yield potential of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Field Crops Research, 2015
Abstract Yield potential studies can assist in identifying the production constraints in any cropping system and economics at the farm level dictate a continual need to increase yield and profit for most crops. Cotton is a tropical indeterminate perennial grown as an annual crop for fibre (lint), oil and meal for animal feed. Its growth habit means a

FLORAL CHARACTERISTICS IN Gossypium hirsutum AND G.barbadense COTTON

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1996
Flower characters viz... length of ovary, style, stigma and pistil, number of ovules and anthers and diameter of pollen in Gossypium hirsutum and G.barbadense cotton were studied. The range of variability was found to be more for pollen diameter in G.hirsutum and for number of anthers in G.barbadense while it was low for length of ovary in both the ...

Transformation of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) via particle bombardment

Plant Cell Reports, 1990
Embryogenic suspension cultures of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) were subjected to particle bombardment, where high density particles carrying plasmid DNA were accelerated towards the embryogenic plant cells. The plasmid DNA coating the particles encoded hygromycin resistance.

Rapid in-vitro plant regeneration of cotton ( Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Plant Cell Reports, 1998
A rapid, clonal propagation procedure has been developed to regenerate mature cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) plants from pre-existing meristems that were excised from in-vitro-grown tissues. This plant regeneration procedure was applicable to diverse cotton germplasms and required specific concentrations of 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) depending on the ...

Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.).

Methods in molecular biology (Clifton, N.J.), 2006
Considering the economic importance of cotton in many developing and developed countries, there is an urgent need to accelerate the application of biotechnological tools to address the problems associated with the production of this crop and to improve the quality of fiber and seed.

Somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Plant Cell Reports, 1987
Tissue culture methods for improvement of cotton has lagged seriously compared to other major crops. A method for regeneration of cotton which includes a morphogenetically competent cell suspension was needed to facilitate selection of stress-resistant variants and gene manipulation. Preliminary screening of eight strains of Gossypium hirsutum L.

Branched Lint Hairs in Cotton, Gossypium hirsutum

Nature, 1962
DURING investigations into the development of lint hairs in Upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) branched hairs were frequently observed in slides examined microscopically. Up to 9 per cent of the hairs on a slide were found to be branched and occasionally two or more branches were observed on a single hair.
