Transcriptomic and DNA Methylation Profiles of Alternative Aphid Morphs and Genotypes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Graph showing the correlation between differentially expressed genes and differentially methylated genes. There is no correlation between gene expression and DNA methylation level in pea aphid polyphenism. ABSTRACT Pea aphids can develop alternative morphs when exposed to stressful conditions, showing differences between genotypes in their stress ...

Optimizing Sex Ratio and Colony Size to Enhance Reproduction and Mass‐Rearing in Spodoptera litura Under Controlled Laboratory Conditions

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Skewed sex ratios frequently constrain colony performance and limit the efficiency of large‐scale rearing systems. For Spodoptera litura, the 1:1 initial sex ratio maximizes female longevity and fecundity. When this ratio is scaled to colony sizes of 20:20, 40:40 and 60:60, the 40:40 configuration yields the best overall reproductive performance, while

Enhancing Stored Wheat Shelf Life: Advances in Storage Technologies, Integrated Pest Management, and Climate‐Responsive Approaches

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT Recent advances in agricultural production and storage systems have contributed to a significant enhancement in annual wheat production and preservation, aimed at satisfying increasing consumer demands. Despite such potential developments, there are still significant post‐harvest losses in stored wheat, induced by destructive pests, grain ...

From flower buds to bolls: how cotton reproductive structures shape boll weevil development, reproduction and survival

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 5, Page 4576-4584, May 2026.
Female boll weevils feeding on flower buds promote reproduction regardless of their immature diet, whereas boll feeding increases lipid reserves and lifespan, revealing a nutrition‐driven trade‐off that sustains survival and reproduction in tropical boll weevil populations.

Conned by the enemy: the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae lures and kills Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 5, Page 4595-4606, May 2026.
Highly pathogenic isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae attracted Drosophila suzukii. Identifying the responsible compounds for this attraction could help the development of these isolates for pest monitoring and overall pest management. Abstract BACKGROUND Drosophila suzukii, commonly known as spotted wing drosophila (SWD), is a highly invasive and ...
