Five new species of cotylean flatworms (Platyhelminthes: Polycladida: Cotylea) from Oaxaca, southern Mexican Pacific

The flatworms of the suborder Cotylea live in diverse marine substrates such as rocks, seaweed and sand or in association with corals. In the Mexican Pacific, particularly on the coast of Oaxaca, knowledge about cotyleans is scarce, with only one record of the genus Pseudoceros.

Based on specimens collected in the Mediterranean and Red Sea coasts of Israel, the first lessepsian flatworm (Boninia neotethydis sp. nov.) is described. Anonymidae Lang, 1884 was established for Anonymus virilis, with multiple male organs; 10 to 11 pairs in two longitudinal rows, one on either side of the pharynx. Redescription of a marine flatworm: Pseudoceros canadensis Hyman, 1953 (Polycladida: Cotylea)

Specimens of Pseudoceros canadensis were studied alive, as stained whole mounts and sagittal sections, and with the aid of scanning electron microscopy. This species is oval in shape with frilled edges. The anterior marginal folds bear a pair of small, erect tentacles.
