A New Take on Sharp Cracks in Brittle Dielectrics: Where Electric Dipole Layers Meet Concentrated Line Forces

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT In this work, novel electrostatic aspects of sharp cracks in brittle dielectrics are discussed using the example of an impermeable Griffith crack in an infinite linear isotropic dielectric plate. On the one hand, electrostatic force densities stemming from the Maxwell stress tensor according to Lorentz are derived mathematically, where the ...

A Practice‐Oriented Exercise Concept to Foster Modeling Competence in Technical Mechanics

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT The transition from physical phenomena to idealized mathematical models represents a fundamental cognitive threshold in engineering education. To address this gap, this paper presents a comprehensive, two‐component didactic concept for introductory technical mechanics centered on improving students' “translational performance”.

From Flybys to Sample Return: A Review of Space Probes and Robotic Sampling Technologies for Small Bodies

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 43, Issue 7, Page 4475-4514, October 2026.
ABSTRACT As a crucial puzzle piece of deep space exploration, exploring small bodies can provide significant scientific insights and valuable mineral resources. Unlike missions to the Moon and Mars, small‐body missions pose distinct technical challenges, including communication delays, weak gravity, and uncertain environments. This paper reviews a full

Fluid Injection Triggers Large‐Scale Slow‐Slip Activation of the Rocky Mountain Fold and Thrust Belt

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract Using interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) we show that hydraulic fracturing treatments near the subsurface deformation limit of the Rocky Mountain Fold and Thrust Belt produced 12 intraplate, aseismic, slow‐slip events with magnitudes Mw ${M}_{w}$ 4.71–5.06 at 1,640–2,410 m depths.
