Coulomb stress changes associated with the M7.3 Maduo earthquake and implications for seismic hazards

open access: yesNatural Hazards Research, 2021
On May 21, 2021, the M7.3 Maduo earthquake occurred within the Bayan Har Block, one of the most seismically active regions in the Tibetan Plateau. This aroused attention to the seismic hazards in this block. Understanding the stress transfer to adjacent faults is important for assessing seismic hazards.

Spatial repartition of local plastic processes in different creep regimes in a granular material [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Granular packings under constant shear stress display below the Coulomb limit, a logarithmic creep dynamics. However the addition of small stress modulations induces a linear creep regime characterized by an effective viscous response.

Earthquake hazard in central Taiwan evaluated using the potentially successive 2013 Nantou Taiwan earthquake sequences

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk, 2020
Based on the Coulomb stress changes due to the 2013 Nantou, Taiwan, earthquake sequences, the locations of successive earthquake events could be estimated. Based on those results, we further investigated the potential earthquake hazards by simulating the

The 2007 Azores earthquakes: A case of triggering? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
On 5 April (Mw=6.3) and 7 April 2007 (Mw=6.1 ) two earthquakes occur at the Formigas Islets (Azores Islands), both with same epicenter and felt (I=V/VI MSK) in S. Miguel Island.

Post-injection normal closure of fractures as a mechanism for induced seismicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Understanding the controlling mechanisms underlying injection-induced seismicity is important for optimizing reservoir productivity and addressing seismicity-related concerns related to hydraulic stimulation in Enhanced Geothermal Systems.

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

Applying unsupervised machine-learning algorithms and MUSIC back-projection to characterize 2018–2022 Hualien earthquake sequence

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2022
Key points 1. We used unsupervised machine-learning algorithms DBSCAN and PCA to study the 2018–2022 Hualien earthquake sequence. 2. A deep westward-dipping and a shallow rotation structure system are revealed from earthquake clusters close to the ...

Electro-elastic tuning of single particles in individual self-assembled quantum dots

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the effect of uniaxial stress on InGaAs quantum dots in a charge tunable device. Using Coulomb blockade and photoluminescence, we observe that significant tuning of single particle energies (~ -0.5 meV/MPa) leads to variable tuning of ...

MOFs and COFs in Electronics: Bridging the Gap between Intrinsic Properties and Measured Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) hold promise for advanced electronics. However, discrepancies in reported electrical conductivities highlight the importance of measurement methodologies. This review explores intrinsic charge transport mechanisms and extrinsic factors influencing performance, and critically ...

Coseismic Coulomb stress changes induced by a 2020–2021 MW > 7.0 Alaska earthquake sequence in and around the Shumagin gap and its influence on the Alaska-Aleutian subduction interface

open access: yesGeodesy and Geodynamics
Three MW > 7.0 earthquakes in 2020–2021 occurred in the Shumagin seismic gap and its adjacent area of the Alaska-Aleutian subduction zone, including the MW7.8 Simeonof thrust earthquake on July 22, 2020, the MW7.6 Sand Point strike-slip earthquake on ...
