The role of coseismic Coulomb stress changes in shaping the hard-link between normal fault segments [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2017
AbstractThe mechanism and evolution of fault linkage is important in the growth and development of large faults. Here we investigate the role of coseismic stress changes in shaping the hard links between parallel normal fault segments (or faults), by comparing numerical models of the Coulomb stress change from simulated earthquakes on two en echelon ...

The role of Coulomb stress changes for injection‐induced seismicity: The Basel enhanced geothermal system

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2013
AbstractWe estimate Coulomb stress variations (ΔCFS) by considering interactions among 163 earthquakes (ML ≤ 3.4) that occurred during the hydraulic stimulation of the enhanced geothermal system in Basel, Switzerland, in 2006. We observe that overall 75% of event locations are consistent with positive ΔCFS.

The June 2022 Afghanistan earthquake M W 6.2: Tectonic implications and Coulomb stress change

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract The June 21, 2022 strong earthquake Mw 6.2 occurred nearly 165 km southeast of Kabul city, Afghanistan, and caused more than 1000 casualties and huge property losses. An untimely occurrence of the shallow focus event (~ 10 km, USGS report) at mid-night when people were asleep and the poor constructed houses caused so many casualties ...

Arm‐Length‐Controlled CsPbBr3 Nanocrystals for Tunable Optical and Assembly Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, the synthesis parameters that dictate the formation of armed CsPbBr3 nanocrystals are described, and routes enabling precise control over arm length are proposed. Direct links between morphology and optoelectronic behavior are established.

Surface Reordering During Layer‐by‐Layer Growth on SrTiO3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Surface structures (left) derived from DFT‐constrained fitting to crystal truncation rods measured by synchrotron X‐ray scattering (right) after each monolayer of deposition during the MBE growth of SrTiO3${\rm SrTiO}_{3}$ (001). The bottom panel shows the bare substrate, the middle panel shows island formation upon deposition of a single layer of SrO,

Anomalous Spin‐Optical Helical Effect in Ti‐Based Kagome Metal

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The kagome lattice hosts diverse correlated quantum states, including elusive loop currents. We report spin‐handedness selective signals in CsTi3Bi5, termed the anomalous spin‐optical helical effect, surpassing conventional spin responses. Arising from light helicity coupled to spin‐orbital correlations, this effect provides a sensitive, indirect probe

Correlated Charge Transport in an Organic Coulomb Glass

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Advances in the development of organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs), electrically gated organic semiconductors (EGOFETs), and organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) allow for the operation of these devices at very high charge‐carrier densities, where Coulomb interactions between carriers can be expected to become significant.

Self‐Regulating Sodium‐Ion Battery Materials: From Phase Reconstruction to Functional Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐regulating sodium‐ion batteries hinge on programmable phase behavior in layered oxides, interphases that renew without growth, and electrolytes that steer solvation and chemistry. This review distills mechanisms into design rules that span composition, site and entropy tuning, and self‐buffering anodes, linking operando evidence to choices and ...
