Hydrodynamic and mass transfer efficiency of ceramic foam packing applied to distillation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In addition to a high void volume and specific area, solid foams possess other properties (low density, good thermal, mechanical, electrical, and acoustical behaviour) that make them attractive for applications such as heat exchangers and reformers ...

Analysis of temperature field and noise characteristics of impinging jet of carrier-based aircraft engine

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2021
ObjectivesAs the deflection angle has great influence on temperature and noise radiation near the deflector of the impinging jet of a carrier-based aircraft, determining an appropriate deflection angle can expand the safe area around the aircraft ...

Observation of a New Mechanism of Spontaneous Generation of Magnetic Flux in a Superconductor

open access: yes, 2004
We report the discovery of a new mechanism of spontaneous generation of a magnetic flux in a superconductor cooled through $T_c$. The sign of the spontaneous flux changes randomly from one cooldown to the next, and follows a Gaussian distribution.

Liquid chromatographic strategies for separation of bioactive compounds in food matrices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Nowadays, there is an increasing attention for nutraceuticals and, in general, bioactive compounds naturally present in food. Indeed, the possibility of preserving human health and preventing disease (e.g., cardiovascular diseases, cancer etc.) by the ...

From continuous to interruptible distillation: Flexible electric heating column architecture with fast start‐up

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Electrification of distillation offers a promising route to reducing scope‐1 emissions from one of the chemical industry's most energy‐intensive unit operations. However, conventional adiabatic columns are dynamically inflexible: Long, energy‐intensive start‐ups make shutdown and restart impractical under variable electricity prices and ...

Comparative analysis of four types of mesoscale eddies in the north pacific subtropical countercurrent region – part I spatial characteristics

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
The North Pacific Subtropical Countercurrent (STCC) region has high mesoscale eddy activities due to its complex circulation structure. This study divides these mesoscale eddies into four types: cyclonic cold-core eddy (CCE), anticyclonic warm-core eddy (

Complexity Analysis of Bubble Plumes in Power Law Fluids Based on Chaos Theory

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In order to reveal the complexity of the internal flow of bubble plume in power law fluid, the flow characteristics and chaotic characteristics of plume are studied by experiment and theory. The chaotic characteristic parameters (correlation dimension D, K entropy, and Lyapunov exponent λ) of gas velocity under different superficial gas ...

Impacts of Interannual Ocean Circulation Variability on Japanese Eel Larval Migration in the Western North Pacific Ocean. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
The Japanese eel larvae hatch near the West Mariana Ridge seamount chain and travel through the North Equatorial Current (NEC), the Kuroshio, and the Subtropical Countercurrent (STCC) region during their shoreward migration toward East Asia.

Destination of New Guinea Coastal Undercurrent in the western tropical Pacific: Variability and linkages

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
The New Guinea Coastal Undercurrent (NGCUC) is considered a bottleneck in the western tropical Pacific (WTP), carrying upper-to-intermediate waters from the south to the northwestern Pacific, thereby playing a fundamen tal role in the interhemispheric ...

A contribution to the anatomy of two rare cetacean species: The hourglass dolphin (Cephalorhynchus cruciger) and the spectacled porpoise (Phocoena dioptrica)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The anatomical description of the hourglass dolphin (Cephalorhynchus cruciger) and the spectacled porpoise (Phocoena dioptrica) remains largely unexplored, due to limited specimen availability and preservation challenges. This study employed digital imaging techniques, conventional histology, and computed tomography to provide visualization of
