ABSTRACT In Japan, female suicide increased during the COVID‐19 pandemic. This study evaluated how pandemic‐related home confinement affected female suicide. We employed a shift‐share instrumental variable design to assess whether differential exposure to the pandemic caused changes in suicide incidence.

Copper interferes with tryptophan metabolism and 5‐HT levels by modulating intestinal flora. Intestinal barrier breakdown and inflammatory response trigger nerve damage under copper exposure. W. coagulans XY2 alleviates copper‐induced neurotoxicity by targeting a multi‐dimensional “tryptophan metabolism‐antioxidant defense‐gut‐brain axis” network.

Inhibition of ferroptosis by microbiota‐derived lithocholic acid underlies the intestinal radioprotection of a host defensin‐derived oligopeptide

AT9(C/G), an oligopeptide derived from human defensin 5, enriches Bifidobacterium pseudolongum and increases lithocholic acid (LCA) levels in the intestine. Reduced levels of LCA link to increased severity of ionizing radiation‐induced intestinal injury (IRIII) in both murine and clinical studies.
