Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Stress in planar cellular solids and isostatic granular assemblies: Coarse-graining the constitutive equation

open access: yes, 2003
A recent theory for stress transmission in isostatic granular and cellular systems predicts a constitutive equation that couples the stress field to the local microstructure. The theory could not be applied to macroscopic systems because the constitutive

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Thermodynamics Analysis of Radiative Hydromagnetic Couple Stress Fluid through a Channel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This work applies second law of thermodynamics to analyse the effect of radiation on electrically conducting couple stress fluid through a channel. A constant magnetic field is introduced across the flow channel and the resulting Navier- Stokes and ...

Couple stresses and the fracture of rock [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2015
An assessment is made here of the role played by the micropolar continuum theory on the cracked Brazilian disc test used for determining rock fracture toughness. By analytically solving the corresponding mixed boundary-value problems and employing singular-perturbation arguments, we provide closed-form expressions for the energy release rate and the ...

Peristaltic Blood Flow of Couple Stress Fluid Suspended with Nanoparticles under the Influence of Chemical Reaction and Activation Energy

open access: yesSymmetry, 2019
The present study gives a remedy for the malign tissues, cells, or clogged arteries of the heart by means of permeating a slim tube (i.e., catheter) in the body.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

On the effective properties of foams in the framework of the couple stress theory

open access: yesContinuum Mechanics and Thermodynamics, 2020
In the framework of the couple stress theory, we discuss the effective elastic properties of a metal open-cell foam. In this theory, we have the couple stress tensor, but the microrotations are fully described by displacements.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Squeeze Film Lubrication between Porous Parallel Stepped Plates with Couple Stress Fluids

open access: yesTribology Online, 2013
This paper presents the theoretical study of squeeze film lubrication between porous parallel stepped plates with couple stress fluids. The lubricant with additives in the film region and also in the porous region in modeled as Stokes couple stress fluid.
