Angular Momentum Transport in Particle and Fluid Disks

open access: yes, 2000
We examine the angular momentum transport properties of disks composed of macroscopic particles whose velocity dispersions are externally enhanced (``stirred'').

Magneto Thermal Convection in a Compressible Couple-Stress Fluid

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung A, 2010
The problem of thermal instability of compressible, electrically conducting couple-stress fluids in the presence of a uniform magnetic field is considered. Following the linearized stability theory and normal mode analysis, the dispersion relation is obtained.

Accelerated Progression of Gait Impairment in Parkinson's Disease and REM Sleep Without Atonia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective People with Parkinson's disease (PD) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep without atonia (RSWA) often have more severe gait disturbances compared to PD without RSWA. The association between the presence and expression of RSWA and the rate of progression of gait impairment in PD is unknown.

Earthquakes: from chemical alteration to mechanical rupture

open access: yes, 1998
In the standard rebound theory of earthquakes, elastic deformation energy is progressively stored in the crust until a threshold is reached at which it is suddenly released in an earthquake.

Portable Low‐Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging in People With Human Immunodeficiency Virus

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The aging population of people with HIV (PWH) raises heightened concerns regarding accelerated aging and dementia. Portable, low‐field MRI (LF‐MRI) is an innovative technology that could enhance access and facilitate routine monitoring of PWH.

Balancing torques in membrane-mediated interactions: Exact results and numerical illustrations

open access: yes, 2007
Torques on interfaces can be described by a divergence-free tensor which is fully encoded in the geometry. This tensor consists of two terms, one originating in the couple of the stress, the other capturing an intrinsic contribution due to curvature.

Reduced Muscular Carnosine in Proximal Myotonic Myopathy—A Pilot 1H‐MRS Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Myotonic dystrophy type 2 (proximal myotonic myopathy, PROMM) is a progressive multisystem disorder with muscular symptoms (proximal weakness, pain, myotonia) and systemic manifestations such as diabetes mellitus, cataracts, and cardiac arrhythmias.

Analytical solutions of couple stress fluid flows with slip boundary conditions

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2014
In the present article, the exact solutions for fundamental flows namely Couette, Poiseuille and generalized Couette flows of an incompressible couple stress fluid between parallel plates are obtained using slip boundary conditions. The effect of various
