From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

The vibration of nanobeam resting on elastic foundation using modified couple stress theory
In this paper, the vibration of nanobeams resting on the Winkler foundation is proposed using the modified couple stress theory. Hamilton’s principle is utilized to construct the governing equations.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Linear viscoelasticity with couple-stresses [PDF]
summary:In the paper the llinear isothermal quasi-static theory of homogeneous and isotropic viscoelastic bodies with couple-stresses is established. The general representations of the linear hereditary laws both in an integral and differential form are ...

Small size and rotary inertia effects on the natural frequencies of carbon nanotubes
In the present paper, rotary inertia and small size effects on the free vibration response of single-walled carbon nanotubes are examined. The equations in motion and associated boundary conditions are obtained by using Hamilton’s principle on the basis ...

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Ellipticity in couple-stress elasticity
We discuss ellipticity property within the linear couple-stress elasticity. In this theory, there exists a deformation energy density introduced as a function of strains and gradient of macrorotations, where the latter are expressed through displacements.

Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Modified couple stress theory in orthogonal curvilinear coordinates [PDF]
The formulations for the modified couple stress theory (MCST) are consistently derived in general orthogonal curvilinear coordinate systems. In particular, the expressions for the rotation vector, higher-order strain, and stress tensors, i.e., the ...
