Analysis of high performance conjugate heat transfer with the OpenPALM coupler

open access: yes, 2015
In many communities such as climate science or industrial design, to solve complex coupled problems with high fidelity external coupling of legacy solvers puts a lot of pressure on the tool used for the coupling.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Evaluation of load transfer mechanism under axial loads in a novel coupler of dual height rock bolts

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mining Science and Technology, 2021
The effective reinforcement of two or more overlying layers of mine openings in a single installation is usually done by coupling of two standard rock bolts mainly during the extraction of medium-thick coal seams.

Broadband silicon photonic directional coupler using asymmetric-waveguide based phase control.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
We design and demonstrate broadband directional couplers that use asymmetric-waveguide based phase control sections, on the silicon-on-insulator platform. Broadband directional couplers with various power splitting ratios, including 10%/90%, 20%/80%, 30%/

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Coupler induced monopole component and its minimization in deflecting cavities

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2013
Deflecting cavities are used in particle accelerators for the manipulation of charged particles by deflecting or crabbing (rotating) them. For short deflectors, the effect of the power coupler on the deflecting field can become significant.

Broadband polarization independent nanophotonic coupler for silicon waveguides with ultra-high efficiency.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
Coupling of light to and from integrated optical circuits has been recognized as a major practical challenge since the early years of photonics. The coupling is particularly difficult for high index contrast waveguides such as silicon-on-insulator, since

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
