Length Analyses of Mammalian G-protein-coupled Receptors

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2001
G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) play a crucial role in mediating effects of extracellular messengers in a wide variety of biological systems, comprising the largest gene superfamily at least in mammals. Mammalian GPCRs are broadly classified into three families based on pharmacological properties and sequence similarities.

Extended Length Heterobifunctional Coupling Agents for Protein Conjugations

Bioconjugate Chemistry, 1996
A series of extended length heterobifunctional coupling agents is described. The successive aminocaproic acid homologation of succinimidyl 4-(N-maleimidomethyl)cyclohexane-1-carboxylate, a known 9-atom long maleimide active ester linker, yielded 16-, 23-, and 30-atom long maleimide active ester homologues. The performance study of these coupling agents

Coupling-length trimming by metal loading in optical coupled-waveguides

Optical and Quantum Electronics, 1981
A simple method for adjusting light coupling between two waveguides is presented. The method involves trimming the interaction length by loading a metal film on to one of the coupled-waveguides. It is effective only for the TM mode, and trimming can be achieved very simply.

Ferrite coupled-line circulator with reduced length

IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2005
A method to design a circulator based on a ferrite coupled line (FCL) with reduced length is presented. This is achieved by appropriate matching networks. Using ferrite perturbation theory, we derive closed-form expressions for the required matching impedances and the resulting bandwidth of the matched device. Based on this analysis, a realistic design

Optimum coupling junction and cavity lengths for coupled-cavity semiconductor lasers

Journal of Applied Physics, 1985
In this paper we investigate the dependence of the mode suppression in coupled-cavity semiconductor lasers on coupling junction parameters and cavity lengths. An effective mirror formalism is developed and combined with exact numerical analysis to explore the mode behavior across the entire relative cavity gain operating range of coupled-cavity ...

System Benefits of Coupled-Core Multicore Fibers with Different Coupling Lengths

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2018
We study the impact of the linear coupling length and the number of cores on the nonlinear benefit of the coupled-core multicore fiber having up to 19 cores. Coupling lengths as short as a few meters improves transmission.

Muscle-tendon model with length-history dependent activation-velocity coupling

Proceedings of 17th International Conference of the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 1998
We developed muscle-tendon models incorporating Hill-type structure and length-dependent coupling between activation and velocity. The models were evaluated in electrically stimulated cat soleus muscles. Dynamic model parameters were estimated by a nonlinear parameter estimation algorithm from input-output data obtained during simultaneous random ...

Switchable fiber coupling using variable-focal-length microlenses

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2001
An array of microlenses, with focal lengths that can be electrically varied, can control the coupling of light into a single mode fiber using an applied voltage. We have examined this technology with a view to the design of a confocal microlens/image-fiber endoscope. Maximum coupling to the fiber was found to occur over a voltage range of ∼1 V and over

Concurrent coupling of length scales: Methodology and application

Physical Review B, 1999
A strategic objective of computational materials physics is the accurate description of specific materials on length scales approaching the meso and macroscopic. We report on progress towards this goal by describing a seamless coupling of continuum to statistical to quantum mechanics, involving an algorithm, implemented on a parallel computer, for ...
