Microcracks closure effects in initially orthotropic materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Microcracking is one of the basic mechanisms of inelastic deformation for a large class of anisotropic materials such as brittle matrix composites. Even at fixed microcracks density, the macroscopic behavior of these materials is very complex due to the ...

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Design Strategies and Emerging Applications of High‐Performance Flexible Piezoresistive Pressure Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Flexible piezoresistive pressure sensors underpin wearable and soft electronics. This review links sensing physics, including contact resistance modulation, quantum tunneling and percolation, to unified materials/structure design. We highlight composite and graded architectures, interfacial/porous engineering, and microstructured 3D conductive networks

Improving the dispersion and flexural strength of multiwalled carbon nanotubes–stiff epoxy composites through β-hydroxyester surface functionalization coupled with the anionic homopolymerization of the epoxy matrix

open access: yesEuropean Polymer Journal, 2006
Abstract Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were functionalized in a two-step acid-epoxy functionalization process, in which suitable surface condition and reactivity compatible with the DGEBA epoxy resin was introduced. The use of (4-dimethylamino)-pyridine as an initiator for DGEBA homopolymerization produced covalent bonds between the ...

Active Learning‐Accelerated Discovery of Fibrous Hydrogels with Tissue‐Mimetic Viscoelasticity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Active learning accelerates the design of fibrous hydrogels that mimic the viscoelasticity of native tissues. By integrating multi‐objective optimization and closed‐loop experimentation, this approach efficiently identifies optimal formulations from thousands of possibilities and decouples elasticity and viscosity. The resulting hydrogels offer tunable

Coupling of substructures for dynamic analyses.

open access: yes, 1968
A method for treating a complex structure as an assemblage of distinct regions, or substructures, is presented. Using basic mass and stiffness matrices for the substructures, together with conditions of geometrical compatibility along substructure ...

Self‐Healing and Stretchable Synaptic Transistor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐healing stretchable synaptic transistor (3S‐T) is realized using a p‐PVDF‐HFP‐DBP/PDMS‐MPU‐IU bilayer as gate insulator, where dipole‐dipole interaction enhances polarization to achieve a large memory window. Leveraging its neuronal biomimicry, the synaptic transistor demonstrates electrically compatibility with the biological brain. Furthermore,
