Dynamics of a Cournot Duopoly Game with a Generalized Bounded Rationality

open access: yesComplexity, 2020
In this paper, the dynamics of Cournot duopoly game with a generalized bounded rationality is considered. The fractional bounded rationality of the Cournot duopoly game is introduced.

Storage games

open access: yesThe RAND Journal of Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study a long‐horizon, oligopolistic market with random shocks to demand that can be arbitraged by two storage operators with finite capacity. This problem applies to any storable commodity—that is, most commodities. Because the arbitrage spread is so sensitive to market power, storage operators face strong incentives to restrain quantities ...

Imitation Dynamics in Oligopoly Games with Heterogeneous Players

open access: yesGames
We investigate the role and performance of imitative behavior in a class of quantity-setting, Cournot games. Within a framework of evolutionary competition between rational, myopic best-response and imitation heuristics with differential heuristics ...

Quantity Precommitment and Cournot and Bertrand Models with Complementary Goods [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Management, Accounting and Economics, 2017
This paper investigates Cournot and Bertrand duopoly models with complementary goods, where firms can enter into lifetime employment contracts with their respective workers as a strategic device.

Analytic solutions of nonlinear Cournot duopoly game

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2005
We construct a Cournot duopoly model with production externality in which reaction functions are unimodal. We consider the case of a Cournot model which has a stable equilibrium point.

Why Is Exclusivity in Broadcasting Rights Prevalent and Why Does Simple Regulation Fail?

open access: yesThe RAND Journal of Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pay‐TV firms compete both downstream to attract viewers and upstream to acquire broadcasting rights. Because profits inherited from downstream competition satisfy a convexity property, allocating rights to the dominant firm maximizes the industry profit.

Teaching Cournot Without Derivatives [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Economic Education, 2001
Abstract The author presents a simple technique for teaching the Cournot model to first-year students. The approach involves demonstrating to the students that out of all rectangles with a common perimeter, the square has the greatest area. No use is made of derivatives. The same approach can be used to understand some other market forms.

COURNOT ON MECHANICS 1826-1834, ESPECIALLY USING INEQUALITIES

Collective Sensitivity, Collective Accessibility, and Collective Kato’s Chaos in Duopoly Games

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
By using the uniform continuity of two onto maps, this paper further explores stronger forms of Kato’s chaos, sensitivity, and accessibility of Cournot maps.
