Autonomous sailboat navigation for short course racing

Robotics and Autonomous Systems, 2008
The paper presents a compact method to calculate a suitable route for a sailboat in order to reach any specified target. The calculation is based on the optimisation of the time derivative of the distance between boat and target and features a hysteresis condition, which is of particular importance for beating to windward.

Navigation Along Windborne Plumes of Pheromone and Resource-Linked Odors.

Annual Review of Entomology, 2020
Many insects locate resources such as a mate, a host, or food by flying upwind along the odor plumes that these resources emit to their source. A windborne plume has a turbulent structure comprised of odor filaments interspersed with clean air.

Course quantization techniques for correlation navigation

1977 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control including the 16th Symposium on Adaptive Processes and A Special Symposium on Fuzzy Set Theory and Applications, 1977
Algorithms for correlation-type position fixing are proposed. These algorithms coarsely quantize the stored or sensed data. The algorithms are compared with the mean absolute difference (MAD) algorithm to see if computer storage requirements may be reduced without sacrificing probability of a correct match.

Jerome Powell: Navigating a New Course?

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2018
In February 2018, Jerome Powell had taken over as chair of the FOMC. At first glance, the macroeconomic conditions inherited by Powell appeared favorable for continued stability: unemployment and inflation were low, and the economy had been steadily growing for nearly a decade.

Navigating the Righteous Course: A Quality Issue

Market Research Society. Journal., 1999
This paper argues that the quality of marketing research will be affected in the long term by how successfully the industry is able to implement industry codes of conduct, in particular the revised MRS Code of Conduct. Success will partly depend on understanding the ethical decision-making process of individual researchers to tailor educational ...

Research navigating the course of clinical practice in diabetes

Journal of the American Dietetic Association, 2004
Three of the four largest and, arguably, most important long-term clinical trials focusing on diabetes in the past 2 decades have had medical nutrition therapy (MNT) as a major element of their experimental therapies: the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial and its follow-up study the Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications Study,

Notice of Retraction: Two-parameter proportional navigation course

2010 3rd International Conference on Computer Science and Information Technology, 2010
As one of the most important navigations, the proportional navigation has the advantages of sensitiveness, well-overload and practicability. In order to magnify the discussion and analysis, the two-parameter proportional navigation method generalized from proportional navigation was established for interception on flank. Then, the analysis and proof of

INSTRUCTOR'S GUIDE. ADVANCED LAND NAVIGATION: A PROTOTYPE COURSE

1963
Abstract : This Guide is intended to acquaint the instructor with the basic concepts and principles of the Advanced Land Navigation (ALN) Program. It is to be used in conjunction with the Lesson Plans included in Part II of this volume. It is hoped that the majority of questions that will arise during the implementation of the Program are answered in ...
