Covering Codes for Hats-on-a-line [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2006
We consider a popular game puzzle, called Hats-on-a-line, wherein a warden has $n$ prisoners, each one wearing a randomly assigned black or white hat, stand in a line. Thus each prisoner can see the colors of all hats before him, but not his or of those behind him. Everyone can hear the answer called out by each prisoner.

Constant 2-Labellings And An Application To (R, A, B)-Covering Codes

open access: yesDiscussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory, 2017
We introduce the concept of constant 2-labelling of a vertex-weighted graph and show how it can be used to obtain perfect weighted coverings. Roughly speaking, a constant 2-labelling of a vertex-weighted graph is a black and white colouring of its vertex

Covering Codes for Insertions and Deletions [PDF]

open access: yes2020 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2020
A covering code is a set of codewords with the property that the union of balls, suitably defined, around these codewords covers an entire space. Generally, the goal is to find the covering code with the minimum size codebook. While most prior work on covering codes has focused on the Hamming metric, we consider the problem of designing covering codes ...

Understanding the Interrelation between the Safety of Life at Sea Convention and Certain IMO’s Codes [PDF]

open access: yesTransNav, 2021
Over the last few decades, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has very heavily utilized the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974 Convention as the main legal instrument (and implementation tool) concerning safety at sea for merchant vessels ...

Identifying Codes and Covering Problems [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2008
The identifying code problem for a given graph involves finding a minimum set of vertices whose neighborhoods uniquely overlap at any given graph vertex. Initially introduced in 1998, this problem has demonstrated its fundamental nature through a wide variety of applications, such as fault diagnosis, location detection, and environmental monitoring, in
