Annual Report of the 2022 National Clinical Database: Decade‐Long Trends and Current Status of Gastroenterological Surgery in Japan

ABSTRACT Aim The National Clinical Database (NCD) of Japan is the largest nationwide registry, covering over 95% of surgeries in the country. This 2022 annual report summarizes the short‐term outcomes of gastroenterological surgeries and discusses trends and insights over the past decade.

Unlike deceased‐donor liver transplantation, living‐donor liver transplantation (LDLT) for Budd‐Chiari Syndrome (BCS) presents distinctive challenges in hepatic venous (HV)‐outflow reconstruction because diseased HV–inferior vena cava (IVC) cannot be entirely replaced with healthy donor vessels.

Age and Regional Trends in Groin Hernia Surgery in Japan: An Analysis of Laparoscopic Repair, Outpatient Surgery, and Manual Reduction Using National Database Open Data

Using National Database open data from 2014 to 2023, this nationwide study visualizes age‐, sex‐, and region‐specific trends in groin hernia surgery in Japan. Laparoscopic surgery, outpatient surgery, and manual reduction were analyzed to estimate lifetime surgical burden and patterns of emergency‐related healthcare utilization at the population level.

Accelerating Primary Screening of USP8 Inhibitors from Drug Repurposing Databases with Tree‐Based Machine Learning

This study introduces a tree‐based machine learning approach to accelerate USP8 inhibitor discovery.
