Abstract Background Bovine leptospirosis is a zoonosis of global importance that is associated with reproductive losses. Limited information on moose calving behaviour, including parturition timing, cow‐calf interactions, and pre‐ and post‐partum movement patterns hinder our ability to define calving phenology and habitat use. GPS‐collars were deployed on 89 female moose over five years, including eight collars equipped with animal‐borne video and environmental data ...

Behavioral response of moose Alces alces to summer heat stress
Minnesota moose are heat‐stressed during summers, which is adversely impacting their survival. We used both movement and activity data to explore the behavioral responses of Minnesota moose experiencing heat stress, termed ‘hot moose events' or HMEs, to understand how both ambient temperature and available habitat contribute to the ability of these ...

Monitoring rodents' life history by body temperature and activity
European hamster populations are rapidly declining all over their distribution area. One of the suggested reasons is a strong and ongoing decrease in the reproductive output of about 77% since the nineteen twenties. The cause of this decline is, however, unknown.

Measuring Zoo Rhino Personality: Investigating Methods of Assessment and Relationships to Behavior
Rhino activity budgets, keeper ratings and responses to novelty showed only partial agreement, suggesting that each method measures different aspects of personality and should not be used interchangeably. Future research should focus on developing a multifaceted, validated personality assessment tool for use in zoo rhino management.
