Perspectives of High‐Resolution Mass Spectrometry in Soil Science

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil biogeochemical research requires specific, sensitive, and accurate methods to identify and quantify organic molecules in order to trace biochemical processes and assess element cycling in complex, heterogenous systems. High‐resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) has evolved into a transformative tool for unraveling the complex chemical ...

Small‐Scale Topographic Variability Shapes Molecular Diversity of Organic Matter in Coastal Dune Soils

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
Topography shapes ecosystem controls, driving microclimate, hydrology, and vegetation, which, in turn, influence topsoil traits and DOM composition in coastal dune soils. Distinct molecular patterns emerge across north‐facing and south‐facing slopes and dune valleys.

Vitamin B12 deficiency in an infant secondary to nutritional deficiency and an inadequate maternal diet

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Vitamin B12 (cobalamin, Cbl) is an essential micronutrient for DNA synthesis and neurological development. Its deficiency in infants, although infrequent in developed countries, can cause megaloblastic anemia, psychomotor delay, and neurological damage that may become irreversible if not treated early.

Biochemical testing and pathology reveal rare cause of pediatric acute liver failure: Hyperornithinemia‐hyperammonemia‐homocitrullinuria syndrome

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Hyperornithinemia‐hyperammonemia‐homocitrullinuria (HHH) syndrome is a rare metabolic condition that can cause lethargy, ataxia, tachypnea, nausea, vomiting, seizures, coma, and acute liver failure. We present a 26‐month‐old female with acute liver failure who was diagnosed with HHH 1 week after admission. Histology revealed an acute hepatitic

Achieving clinical and histologic remission with tezepelumab in an adolescent with refractory eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease: A case report

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Tezepelumab is a human monoclonal antibody that binds to human thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), an epithelial cytokine that plays a role in Type 2 signaling. We describe a 17‐year‐old with a history of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and eosinophilic gastroenteritis who demonstrated response to tezepelumab with both clinical and histologic ...

Novel variant and enteroendocrine hormone deficiency in a patient with proline and glutamate‐rich protein with a coiled coil domain 1 (PERCC1) associated enteropathy: New diagnostic and therapeutic insights

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Proline and glutamate‐rich protein with a coiled coil domain 1 (PERCC1)‐associated enteropathy is a rare monogenic congenital diarrhea due to defective enteroendocrine cells (EECs). We describe a 6‐year‐old female with intestinal failure since birth.

Choosing the Right Liquid Feed for Your Calves

open access: yes, 2017
The primary messages of this presentation are that there are any good options for liquid diets to feed calves. One should stay away from unpasteurized waste milk!

In vitro and in sacco determination of neutral detergent fibre digestibility of treated cereal straw

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Cereal straw is hardly digestible due to its complex bonds of lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose. That is why chemical treatments, such as with sodium hydroxide, may help to loosen the bonds and thus increase ruminal digestibility. Neutral detergent fibre (NDF) digestibility is a good predictor of feed intake.
