Genetic Diversity and Distribution of Italian Cave Crickets (Dolichopoda): Toward a Better Understanding of Lineage Structure

open access: yesAnimals
Cave crickets of the genus Dolichopoda (Orthoptera; Rhaphidophoridae) represent a key component of cave ecosystems. In Italy, nine species are currently known, distributed from the northwestern regions to the southernmost Apennines, with occurrences also

First Detection of the Obligate Biotroph Phytophthora cyperi Causing Disease on Yellow Nutsedge in the United States, and Establishment of Molecular Barcoding Sequences for the Species

open access: yesPhytoFrontiers
A pathogen causing disease on yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) growing in and near irrigated areas of onion seed and bulb fields in Idaho and Oregon during July and August 1996 was morphologically and molecularly characterized.

Oxa1 Directly Interacts with Atp9 and Mediates Its Assembly into the Mitochondrial F\u3csub\u3e1\u3c/sub\u3eF\u3csub\u3eo\u3c/sub\u3e-ATP Synthase Complex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The yeast Oxa1 protein is involved in the biogenesis of the mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) machinery. The involvement of Oxa1 in the assembly of the cytochrome oxidase (COX) complex, where it facilitates the cotranslational membrane ...

Mitochondrial Molecular Adaptations and Life History Strategies Coevolve in Plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Messenger RNA secondary structure prevents mutations at functionally important sites. Mutations at exposed sites would cause micro-adaptations, niche-specialization, and therefore, can be thought to promote K-strategists. Exposing, rather than protecting,

Evaluating the utility ofcox1for cetacean species identification

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, 2011
AbstractThe mitochondrial cytochromecoxidase I (cox1) gene has been promoted as a universal reference gene, or barcode, to identify organisms to the species level. We evaluated whethercox1would be appropriate to diagnose cetacean species. The 5′ end ofcox1(686 base pairs, bp) was sequenced for 46 of 86 recognized species of cetaceans.

Macroid Formation in Salmacina stellaebayensis n. sp. From Mauritania's Baie de l'Étoile With New Insights on Mitogenome Evolution in Serpulidae (Annelida)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We describe Salmacina stellaebayensis n. sp. from Mauritania's Baie de l'Étoile and provide the first complete mitochondrial genome for the genus Salmacina. The species forms distinctive macroid colonies in Cymodocea nodosa seagrass meadows, offering new insights into serpulid life history and habitat specialization.

Comparison and complete mitogenomes of two morphologically similar but ecologically different tick species, Ixodes arboricola and Ixodes lividus (subgenus Pholeoixodes)

open access: yesTicks and Tick-Borne Diseases
Ixodes arboricola and Ixodes lividus are ornithophilic tick species. The former is typically associated with tree-hole dwelling birds, while the latter is a host-specific parasite of sand martins (Riparia riparia).

Recent range expansion of an intermediate host for animal schistosome parasites in the Indo-Australian Archipelago: phylogeography of the freshwater gastropod Indoplanorbis exustus in South and Southeast Asia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: The planorbid snail Indoplanorbis exustus is the sole intermediate host for the Schistosoma indicum species group, trematode parasites responsible for cattle schistosomiasis and human cercarial dermatitis.
