Species Identification of Licorice Using nrDNA and cpDNA Genetic Markers
For the accurate identification of medicinal licorice species, nucleotide sequences of four types of DNA regions were researched for 205 specimens, including three species used as licorice: Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Glycyrrhiza glabra, and Glycyrrhiza inflata.

Abstract Climate change is driving the loss of genetic diversity, potentially limiting species' capacity to adapt to environmental change. Detecting changes in genetic diversity requires replicated temporal data, which is lacking for most species. Here, we combined contemporary and historical specimens of the climate‐vulnerable fucoid Scytothalia ...

Understanding the evolution of native pinewoods in Scotland will benefit their future management and conservation [PDF]
Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) is a foundation species in Scottish highland forests and a national icon. Due to heavy exploitation, the current native pinewood coverage represents a small fraction of the postglacial maximum.

Summary Secondary contact between incipient species provides the opportunity to understand how trait divergence restricts gene flow. While mating system transitions are particularly common and involve a suite of phenotypic changes, the extent to which these changes influence gene flow during speciation is poorly understood.

A Phylogenetic Analysis of the Genus Fragaria (Strawberry) Using Intron-Containing Sequence from the ADH-1 Gene [PDF]
The genus Fragaria encompasses species at ploidy levels ranging from diploid to decaploid. The cultivated strawberry, Fragaria×ananassa, and its two immediate progenitors, F. chiloensis and F. virginiana, are octoploids.
