Abstract Repeated applications of Cydia pomonella granulovirus (CpGV) can effectively control the codling moth (CM) in apple orchards. However, it is still unknown whether horizontal transmission of the virus from infected to uninfected larvae contributes to the efficacy of the virus insecticide.

Field trials of CpGV virus isolates overcoming resistance to CpGV-M
The Cydia pomonella granulovirus (CpGV) has been used for many years as biological agent for codling moth control in apple orchards. Resistance to the Mexican strain of CpGV was detected in orchards in Germany, France and Italy. A laboratory insect colony was started from insects collected in a French resistant orchard. It was named RGV.

Recently, codling moth (CM, Cydia pomonella L.) populations with a significantly reduced susceptibility to C. pomonella granulovirus (CpGV) products have been observed in Germany. A novel CpGV isolate, designated CpGV-I12, is able to overcome the CpGV resistance. CpGV-I12 originated from Iran and showed superior efficacy in laboratory bioassays against

The utilization of insect pest pathogens as biocontrol agents can serve as an effective alternative to chemical pesticides. However, pests can develop resistance to these pathogens, similar to resistance observed with chemicals. Identifying the genetic bases of resistance is a crucial step in comprehending the co-evolution mechanisms between insect ...
