Determination Uranium and its Isotopes in Biological Samples of Smokers

open access: yesمجلة بغداد للعلوم
This study was conducted in the Najaf Governorate- Iraq, to analyze biological samples from smokers and non-smokers. The samples, including blood serum, urine, hair, and nails, were used as biomarkers to determine uranium concentrations (UC) and ...

CR ISOTOPES AS A VALUABLE TRACER OF CR(VI) REDUCTION IN POLLUTED (GROUND)WATERS

open access: yesProceedings of the 44th International Academic Conference, Vienna, 2018
Chromium stable isotopes are of interest in many geochemical studies as a tool to identify Cr(VI) reduction in groundwater aquifers. At four industrial sites in the Czech Republic, we evaluated the extent of spontaneous removal of toxic Cr(VI) contaminated by Cr-plating baths.

Mikrometeorite und ihr Ursprung im Sonnensystem: Außerirdischer Staub zum Anfassen

open access: yesPhysik in unserer Zeit, EarlyView.

EPR of photochromic Mo3+ in SrTiO3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In single crystals of SrTiO_3, a paramagnetic center, characterized by S = 3/2 and hyperfine interaction with an I = 5/2 nuclear spin has been observed in the temperature range 4.2K-77K by means of EPR. The impurity center is attributed to Mo3+.

University teaching of mass spectrometry as a key practical technique within the context of a fully integrated, spiral curriculum

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
Rationale Mass spectrometry (MS) is introduced to high school students in the UK in many pre‐university course syllabi. As such, we have identified the use of MS as a key technique that should be taught practically to undergraduates from the outset of their studies.

Benthic Macroinvertebrate Recovery After Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades: Implications for Biomonitoring

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT During the past decade, major upgrades have been made to the Kitchener and Waterloo wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in the Grand River watershed in Ontario, Canada. As part of efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of these investments (>$450 M CDN), a benthic macroinvertebrate (BMI) monitoring program was initiated by sampling upstream and

Portable X‐Ray Fluorescence in the Assessment of Zinc Along Grizzly Bear Hair

open access: yesX-Ray Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As a biomarker of past uptake of zinc, hair presents an interesting option since its growth can provide a stored record over time. This study investigates the distribution of zinc in hairs gathered from a series of grizzly bears (Ursus arctos horribilis).

A Low‐Power Radioisotope XRF Spectrometer for Detection of Light Elements on Planetary Missions

open access: yesX-Ray Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Current X‐ray spectrometers for in situ geochemical analysis on planetary missions typically rely either on X‐ray tubes, which demand electrical power and add mass and thermal complexity, or on alpha particle X‐ray spectrometers (APXS) that use rare 244Cm$$ {}^{244}\mathrm{Cm} $$ sources, and come with severe concerns on radiation safety and ...

Quality from Kent: Preliminary results from the analysis of fifth‐ to seventh‐century silver alloys

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper explores early results from the chemical and lead isotope analysis of 30 silver‐alloy objects from southeast England dating between the fifth and seventh centuries CE, presenting limited aspects of the three main analyses that were conducted. First, a comparison of the results gained from surface x‐ray fluorescence (pXRF) values and
