Influence of Cr (VI) concentration on Cr (VI) reduction and electricity production in microbial fuel cell

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2021
Microbial fuel cell is an efficient technology to reduce pollutants of the heavy metal ions. Herein, a dual-chamber microbial fuel cell (MFC) coupled with abio-cathode and electrochemically active bacteria is fabricated to treat Cr (VI) containing wastewater and harvest bioelectricity simultaneously.

Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in leather and elicitation of eczema

Contact Dermatitis, 2006
The aim of the present study was to investigate the relation between the content of Cr(VI) and soluble Cr(III) in leather and the ability of the leather to elicit eczema in chromium allergic patients. An array of chromium‐tanned leather samples was analysed for the content of total Cr(VI) and soluble Cr(III) using the DIN 53314 and the DS/EN 420 ...

Chemistry of Cr(VI) in a constructed wetland

Environmental Science & Technology, 1995
The feasibility of the use of constructed wetlands to treat acidic wastes containing hexavalent chromium is successfully demonstrated on a laboratory scale. The chemistry of Cr(VI) in this system has been determined. Cr(VI) removal is highly dependent upon the organic content of the wetland matrix.

Reduction of Cr(VI) by caffeic acid

Chemosphere, 2007
In the soil-plant system, the Cr(VI) toxicity can be moderated through redox reactions involving phenolic substances. In such a context, we report the reducing activity of caffeic acid (CAF) towards Cr(VI) in aqueous phase. The redox reaction between Cr(VI) and CAF was studied as a function of both time and pH at different initial metal concentrations.

Bioremediation of Cr(VI) in contaminated soils

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2005
Ex situ treatment of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) contaminated soil using a bioreactor-biosorption system was evaluated as a novel remediation alternative. Leaching of Cr(VI) from the contaminated soil using various eluents showed that desorption was strongly affected by the solution pH. The leaching process was accelerated at alkaline conditions (pH 9)

Chromium allergy: significance of both Cr(III) and Cr(VI)

Contact Dermatitis, 2003
Most studies investigating chromium allergy have been performed with Cr(VI). However, real exposure to chromium from leather products includes both Cr(III) and Cr(VI). We have determined and compared the minimum elicitation threshold (MET) concentration for Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in Cr(VI)‐sensitive patients.

Digestion treatments and risks of Cr(III)–Cr(VI) interconversions during Cr(VI) determination in soils and sediments—a review

Analytica Chimica Acta, 2005
Threshold values for Cr(VI) in various types of solid matrices have been set up to protect human health and biota. To ascertain the compliance of solids with these limits different types of extractants and different conditions of pH and temperature have been proposed in the literature.

Protocol for Extraction and Determination of Cr(VI) in Solid Materials with a High Cr(III)/Cr(VI) Ratio Using EDDS as a Leaching Agent for Cr(VI) and a Masking Agent for Cr(III)

Electroanalysis, 2008
AbstractA sensitive and selective protocol for the extraction of all forms of Cr(VI) from solid materials followed by determination by catalytic adsorptive stripping voltammetry has been elaborated. Cr(VI) was leached to a solution with 0.2 mol L−1 (NH4)2SO4/NH4OH+0.1 mol L−1 EDDS (pH 9.5) and simultaneously Cr(III) was transferred to a nonactive ...

2018
Hydrogel and xerogel of Cr(VI)-containing hydrated zirconium dioxide, which had been obtained from both cation- and anion-substituted forms, were investigated with an impedance spectroscopy method. It was shown that complex composition of the amphoteric inorganic ion-exchanger and also protonization of its functional groups, which influence the ...
