Three-Dimensional Surface Crack Growth of Maraging Steel Spherical Pressure Shell

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
This study focused on the three-dimensional surface crack growth of a spherical pressure shell. Eight maraging steel 18Ni (250) samples were fabricated and tested, and the fatigue crack growth rate curves were obtained.

Near-Threshold Fatigue Crack Growth Rates of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Produced Ti-6Al-4V

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2020
When Ti-6Al-4V is processed by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), a material with a martensitic microstructure is obtained. Moreover, the presence of internal stresses, an outer surface with relatively high surface roughness and the presence of remnant ...

Effect of different environmental conditions on surface crack growth in aluminum alloys [PDF]

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2017
. Fatigue surface crack growth is studied through experiments and computations for aluminum alloys D16T and B95AT (analogue of 2024 and 7075 aluminum). Subjects for studies are cylindrical hollow specimens with external semi-elliptical surface crack. The

R-curve Evaluation of Copper and Nickel Single Crystals Using Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesCrystals, 2018
The technique of molecular statics (MS) simulation was employed to determine the crack growth resistance curve of Cu and Ni single crystals. Copper and Ni single crystal nanoplates with an edge crack subjected to a tensile displacement were simulated ...

Residual stress effects on fatigue crack growth rate of mild steel S355 exposed to air and seawater environments

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2020
In this paper, the parameters of fatigue crack growth rate for Q355J2 steel exposed to air and seawater were presented using the “Paris' law” based on the stress intensity factor (SIF), J-integral, crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) and crack tip ...

Relation Between Scatter in Crack Growth Rate and Small Crack Growth Law.

open access: yesJournal of the Society of Materials Science, Japan, 1994
In order to investigate the scatter characteristic of growth rate for small cracks, rotating bending fatigue tests of smooth specimens were carried out using a normalized 0.21% carbon steel. Fifteen specimens were fatigued at each stress range, and the growth rate of major cracks was calculated from the smoothed growth curve for all the specimens.

Study on crack evolutional behavior of rocks in triaxial compression based on colony growth dynamics model

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The crack propagation behavior of rock during compression involves complex mechanisms. Describing the growth behavior of a large number of cracks with conventional mechanical models is a major challenge.
