Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Crack initiation mechanisms under two stress ratios up to very-high-cycle fatigue regime for a selective laser melted Ti-6Al-4V

International Journal of Fatigue, 2021
Crack initiation mechanisms under two stress ratios (R =  − 1 and 0.5) and up to very-high-cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime of a selective laser melted (SLMed) Ti-6Al-4V were investigated.

Relationship between non-inclusion induced crack initiation and microstructure on fatigue behavior of bainite/martensite steel in high cycle fatigue/very high cycle (HCF/VHCF) regime

, 2021
High cycle and very high cycle fatigue (HCF/VHCF) in a bainite/martensite (B/M) multiphase steel with varying inclusion size and microstructural features was studied using ultrasonic axial cycling test.

Investigating the crack initiation and propagation mechanism in brittle rocks using grain-based finite-discrete element method

, 2020
Fracturing process and possible factors influencing crack initiation, propagation and coalescence of granitic rocks are investigated using a grain-based finite-discrete element method (GB-FDEM).
