Fatigue crack growth behavior of rib-to-deck double-sided welded joints of orthotropic steel decks
, 2020Innovative double-sided welding is expected to improve the fatigue resistance of rib-to-deck welded joints of orthotropic steel decks (OSDs). Welding crack-like defects are the crucial issue affecting the fatigue performance of rib-to-deck double-sided ...

Mixed-mode crack growth predictions
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1987Abstract The problem of slow stable growth of an inclined crack in a plate subjected to uniaxial tension is studied by the strain energy density criterion. The stable crack growth process is simulated by predicting a series of crack growth steps corresponding to a piecewise loading increase when material elements along the direction of crack ...

Experimental results show that ductile crack extension occurs often under steady-state mixed mode conditions. Observations in experiments [118] confirm that material points undergo failure under mode I and mode III conditions, especially, for thin specimens the crack tip field is turned from pure mode I (normal stress failure) to combined mode I and ...

Nearly circular shear mode cracks
International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1988In this paper we study the elasticity problems of a planar crack, lying in an infinite three-dimensional solid, the front of which differs only slightly form a circle. The crack system is subjected to loadings that induce shear mode stress intensity factors at the crack front.

Mode I fatigue crack growth at notches considering crack closure
International Journal of Fatigue, 2010Abstract Αn analytical elastic–plastic model is presented describing the fatigue life of arbitrary engineering components with elliptical notches under constant amplitude loading. A ΔJeff-based crack growth law is integrated from a starting crack size of micro-structural dimension up to the total fracture of the component.
