Loading Mode (Mode I/Mode III) Testing for Stress Corrosion Cracking

1984
The use of loading mode variation (Modes I and III) to identify the mechanisms of stress corrosion cracking is reviewed and evaluated, and some recent results on 7075 and 7090 aluminum are presented. It is concluded that the conventional interpretation (that anodic dissolution dominates when results in Modes I and III are similar, and hydrogen ...

Differences Between Mode I and Mode II Crack Propagation

Pure and Applied Geophysics, 2006
Although mode I and mode II crack propagation show many similarities, in particular when analysed by linear elastic fracture mechanics, they differ significantly in the micro-structural behaviour. These differences, which are clearly noticeable in the fracture surface morphology, lead to fundamental differences in the macroscopic behaviour.

Stress Trajectories for Mode I and Mode II Cracks

International Journal of Fracture, 2006
Maximum shear stress trajectories are obtained for the mode I and for the mode II crack in an isotropic elastic solid in plane strain.

Mixed Mode Fatigue Crack Growth in a Center-Cracked Panel

2003
Evaluate the initial fatigue crack growth rate for a 20 mm centre crack in a thick wide plate. The crack is oriented at an angle of 45° to the direction of loading. The plate is subjected to a constant amplitude fatigue loading from 0 to 100 MPa. Material properties: E = 210 GPa, v = 0.25.

Mixed-mode crack growth in toughened PMMA

2004
Experimental results concerning mixed-mode crack growth in PMMA specimens are presented, together with numerical simulations of the whole fracture process. The mixed-mode tests were conducted on single edge notched specimens subject to three point bending loading conditions.
