Dynamic effects in mode III crack bifurcation

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1986
Transient elastodynamic nonplanar self-similar Mode III crack growth in brittle materials is examined. The dynamic similarity and Chaplygin's transformation reduce the class of problems considered to the solution of Laplace's equation in a semi-infinite strip.

Fatigue crack propagaion under mixed mode loading

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1984
Mixed mode fatigue crack propagation is analyzed, using a centre cracked plate geometry, loaded under uniaxial cyclic tension.

Analysis of energy dissipation and crack evolution law of sandstone under impact load

, 2020
Based on the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) laboratory tests, the dynamic mechanical properties and failure mode of sandstone are analyzed, and a SHPB numerical model is established by particle flow code (PFC). The dynamic stress equilibrium, stress

Intersonic mode II crack acceleration

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1999
ABSTRACTAn analytic solution is given for intersonic mode II crack acceleration. The solution is obtained by first considering a self‐similar problem, motion of a semi‐infinite crack at constant velocity, under the action of a constant crack face load, appearing behind the crack edge.

Mixed-mode crack propagation through reinforced concrete

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2007
This paper presents the results of a very recent experimental research program aimed at investigating mixed-mode fracture of reinforced concrete. The tests were designed so that only one single mixed-mode crack generates and propagates through the specimen, as opposed to the usual dense crack pattern found in most of the tests in scientific literature.

Mixed-mode crack growth predictions

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1987
Abstract The problem of slow stable growth of an inclined crack in a plate subjected to uniaxial tension is studied by the strain energy density criterion. The stable crack growth process is simulated by predicting a series of crack growth steps corresponding to a piecewise loading increase when material elements along the direction of crack ...

Mixed mode crack propagation

2002
Experimental results show that ductile crack extension occurs often under steady-state mixed mode conditions. Observations in experiments [118] confirm that material points undergo failure under mode I and mode III conditions, especially, for thin specimens the crack tip field is turned from pure mode I (normal stress failure) to combined mode I and ...

Nearly circular shear mode cracks

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1988
In this paper we study the elasticity problems of a planar crack, lying in an infinite three-dimensional solid, the front of which differs only slightly form a circle. The crack system is subjected to loadings that induce shear mode stress intensity factors at the crack front.
