Rail fatigue crack propagation in high-speed wheel/rail rolling contact
To study the wheel/rail rolling contact fatigue of high-speed trains, we obtain the distribution of contact forces between wheel and rail by introducing the strain-rate effect.

Mode Localization of a Cracked Blade-Disks [PDF]
In this paper, the effect of blade crack on the mode localization of a rotating blade-disk is studied. Pretwisted taper beams are used to simulate blades of a blade-disk. The crack on the blade can be regarded as a local disorder of this periodically coupled blades system.

Non-invasive analysis of macro-crack on the characteristics of ultrasonic guided wave
The effects of macro-crack in plates on the characteristic of ultrasonic guided wave were studied. Using the Finite Element Model and numerical calculation method, the finite element mesh models of various macro-crack in aluminum plate were established ...

The crack-propagation form may appear as an arbitrary mixed-mode fracture in an engineering structure due to an irregular internal crack. It is of great significance to research the mixed-mode fracture of materials with cracks.

Cracks weaken structures. When the crack size increases in service, the structure becomes weaker than its earlier condition. Lastly, the structure may break down due to a small crack.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only
