The effect of low-cycle fatigue on evolution of fracture mechanics parameters in residual stress field caused by cold hole expansion

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2018
Localized displacement measurements based on electronic speckle-pattern interferometry are used to obtain crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD), stress intensity factor (SIF) and T-stress values during crack growth around cold-expanded holes.

Side cracked plated subject to combined direct and bending forces [PDF]

open access: yes
The opening mode stress intensity factor and the associated crack mouth displacement are comprehensively treated using planar boundary collocation results supplemented by end point values from the literature.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Computation of the crack opening displacements for Vickers indentation cracks

open access: yes, 2002
Vickers indentation cracks are an appropriate tool to determine the crack-tip toughness K I 0 and possibly the bridging relation of ceramics with an R-curve behaviour from the total crack opening displacements. Two contributions to the total crack opening displacement field are addressed.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

RESEARCH OF OPENING DISPLACEMENTS FOR TWO CRACKS EMANATING FROM A CIRCULAR HOLE IN AN INFINITE PLATE UNDER PRESSURE ON PART OF CRACK SURFACE

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2019
The purpose of this paper is to research problems of cracks at a circular hole, which is a common crack configuration in aircraft structures. The Muskhelishvili complex function method and the Cauchy integral method are combined to develop crack surface ...

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.

Strip Yield Model Numerical Application to Different Geometries and Loading Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes
A new numerical method based on the strip-yield analysis approach was developed for calculating the Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD). This approach can be applied for different crack configurations having infinite and finite geometries, and ...

Aging Is a Key Driver for Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a classical age‐related hematologic malignancy, and a key driver of AML is aging, which profoundly regulates intrinsic factors such as genomic instability, epigenetic reprogramming, and metabolic dysregulation, and alters bone marrow microenvironment.
