A Diffraction Problem and Crack Propagation
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1967The exact solution to the problem of diffraction of plane harmonic polarized shear waves by a half-plane crack extending under antiplane strain is constructed. The solution is employed to study the nature of the stress field associated with an extending crack in an elastic medium excited by stress waves.

Micromechanisms of Crack Initiation and Crack Propagation
1985After summarizing fracture mechanics parameters the paper introduces micromechanical models of cleavage fracture. It is shown that cleavage can be interpreted in terms of the local tensile stress required to propagate micro-cracks. Methods to determine the microscopic cleavage stress are presented.

The crack initiation and growth mechanisms in an 2D graphene lattice structure are studied based on molecular dynamics simulations. Crack growth in an initial edge crack model in the arm-chair and the zig-zag lattice configurations of graphene are considered. Influence of the time steps on the post yielding behaviour of graphene is studied.

International Journal of Fracture, 1979
While currently used criteria for onset of crack propagation in a mixed mode loading situation give different predictions for the angle of incipient branching, the present paper demonstrates that the trajectory of a curved crack to a large extent is independent of the choice among these criteria.

Further Studies of Crack Propagation Using the Controlled Crack Propagation Approach
1974In a previous paper, a new fracture-toughness-measuring technique was presented which made it possible to evaluate the functional relationship between load and cracklength at the moment of crack initiation or arrest. It was demonstrated that this relationship is directly relatable to the strain energy release rate and experimental results were ...

On the nonsteady propagation of cracks
Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1962Abstract Investigations of the processes of crack propagation have continued now for a considerable period of time, and it would be fair to say that in the field of stationary propagation of cracks the investigations have more or less reached completion.

Theory of propagation of cracks
Journal of Engineering Mathematics, 1975The criterion for the plastic flow of crystalline solids is well established but a similar criterion for the fracture of brittle solids under triaxial stress conditions has not been proposed so far. According to the present theory, brittle fracture occurs as the result of the formation and subsequent propagation of microcracks.

Crack Formation and Propagation
MRS Bulletin, 1989After Griffith's explanation of the decrease in the strength of a loaded material containing a disbonded area (a crack), it took about another quarter century before “Fracture Mechanics” as an engineering discipline became established. At that time it was the catastrophic failure of the Liberty ships and the basic contributions by Irwin2 that created a

Simulation of Crack Propagation
2014We shall consider the simulation-based fracture control design. It is well known that the simulation of the formation of brittle or fatigue cracks is essential for the precise evaluation of fracture modes and fracture processes, so that several numerical simulation systems could be developed based on the finite element method, meshless method, and/or ...
