On the torsion of a cylinder with several cracks

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1988
In this paper, based on paper [1], the analytic expression of the torsion function for a cylinder containing arbitrary oriented cracks is obtained. The problem is reduced to solve a system of singular integral equations for the unknown dislocation density functions.

Multivariable optimization of thermal cracking severity

Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 2011
Abstract The changing market forces are driving olefin producers to operate their steam crackers at high operating rates and optimum production performances. These require the use of an optimizer for assessment of viable operational strategies. Most of the optimizers currently employed in this area make use of the coil outlet temperature to determine

Behavior of cracked Euler–Bernoulli beam and inverse problem for assessing crack severity

Noise & Vibration Worldwide, 2021
In this present study, natural frequencies of the first two modes of bending vibration for the cracked simply supported Euler–Bernoulli beam is determined using finite element analysis (FEA). FEA natural frequencies for the cracked beam are used to investigate the behavior of the cracked beam and also used in the inverse problem of crack depth ...

DAMPING FACTOR AS AN INDICATOR OF CRACK SEVERITY

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2001
When a material is subjected to an alternating stress field there are temperature fluctuations throughout its volume due to thermoelastic effect. The resulting irreversible heat conduction leads to entropy production, which in turn is the cause for thermodynamic damping.

Research on a Treatment Measure for Base Regeneration by Preset Cracking and Grouting for Severe Reflective Cracks

Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, 2021
Reflective cracks in asphalt pavement are major distresses in semi-rigid pavement. To date, grouting and jointing filling are commonly used to solve this problem. However, the grouting materials cannot be filled with cracks that have not propagated to the surface of base.

Sour Environmental Severity for Hydrogen-Induced Cracking Susceptibility

Corrosion, 2022
The severity of sour environments has been determined in accordance with the European Federation of Corrosion 16 and NACE MR0175/ISO 15156-2:2015 standards for carbon and low-alloy steels, based on the experimental results of sulfide stress cracking (SSC).

FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH IN SEVERAL CERAMIC MATERIALS

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1993
AbstractFatigue crack growth tests of five ceramic materials were carried out in order to investigate the general characteristics of cyclic and static fatigue crack growth in ceramics. A cyclic effect was found in Si3N4, Al2O3and TiB2, where the main fracture mechanism was intergranular separation, and stress shielding due to grain bridging occurred ...

Modelling the severity of plastic shrinkage cracking in concrete

Cement and Concrete Research, 2013
Abstract Plastic shrinkage cracking (PShC) is one of the earliest forms of cracking in concrete as it occurs within the first few hours after the concrete has been cast. Concrete elements with large exposed surfaces are especially vulnerable to PShC.

Patternanalysis of the Severity of Multiple Crack Arrays

Key Engineering Materials, 2007
Multiple Site Damage (MSD) is a typical problem of aging aircraft structures. On the other hand a similar situation may occur, if damages in the vicinity of the crack tip of a large crack is investigated. In some preceding papers the author has shown the possibility to assess the criticality of a MSD-scenario by comparing certain data compression ...

Construction of a Universal Scale of Severity for Hydrogen Cracking

CORROSION 2000, 2000
Abstract In both its upstream and downstream sectors, the oil & gas industry has to cope with hydrogen cracking in various hydrogenating media, including sour service, cathodic protection (CP), anhydrous HF, or cold hydrogen gas. In order to allow the general transposition of the detailed materials specifications recently established
