Size effect on crack-tip creep
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1996Creep Energy Dissipation (CED) rate due to crack-tip creep zone and load-line deflection rate are calculated under small-scale creep conditions for Compact Tension (CT) specimens of four different widths. It is observed that CED rate has a unique parabolic relation with the crack-tip stress intensity factor, K and thus it depends on the specimen width.

Determination of Material Constants for Crack Size-Dependence Crack Growth Model
Materials Science Forum, 2007A crack size-dependence crack growth model was used to characterise the fatigue crack growth in AL 7075-T6 and AL 2024-T351 alloys. It is shown that the crack growth parameters %K and a can be used to linearise the crack growth in regions I (elastic) and II (plastic) by plotting fatigue data linear-linear da/dN×√a versus %K3, where cubic stress ...

Crack-size distribution in homogeneous solids
International Journal of Fracture, 1979Thermally activated crack propagation takes place by consecutive bond breaking and occasional mending steps. This process can be represented by a differential equation that describes the crack-size distribution as a function of time for single-step processes.

FATIGUE CRACK SIZE PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION VIA A FILTER TECHNIQUE
Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1992Abstract— A Markovian method of crack propagation analysis is studied. Non‐physical negative and/or unbounded crack growth rates are avoided. The cumulative distribution function of the crack length is evaluated at a fixed time by using a technique based on Hermite moments which are calculated by means of classical Itô calculus.

Gear fatigue crack size estimation using embedded modeling
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2001This paper describes an embedded modeling methodology for identifying gear meshing stiffness from measured gear angular displacement or transmission error. An embedded model integrating a physical based model of the gearbox and a parametric representation, in the form of truncated Fourier series, of meshing stiffness is established.

AE technique has been widely applied to detect and locate fatigue cracks in metallic structures. However, it is still a challenging task to accurately quantify the size of a fatigue crack using AE technique (Gagar et al., Smart Mater Struct 23(10):105033, 2014).

Electrochemical Crack Size Effect in Stress Corrosion Cracking and Corrosion Fatigue
CORROSION 2017, 2017Abstract The growth rate of small and long stress corrosion and corrosion fatigue cracks in 12Cr steam turbine blade steels in low conductivity water containing 35 ppm Cl- (simulating upset steam condensate chemistry) showed a significant dependence on crack size for the same mechanical driving force.

MARKOV APPROXIMATION TO FATIGUE CRACK SIZE DISTRIBUTION
Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1990AbstractThe distribution of the crack size during the fatigue crack propagation phenomenon is investigated. A Markovian modeling of the crack is introduced through the fatigue crack growth law, and the associated Fokker‐Planck equation is written while special care is devoted to specifying its boundary conditions.
