A State-Space Model of Fatigue Crack Growth

International Journal of Fracture, 1998
This paper proposes a nonlinear dynamic model of fatigue crack growth in the state-space setting based on the crack closure concept under cyclic stress excitation of variable amplitude and random loading. The model state variables are the crack length and the crack opening stress.

Between the Cracks: Filling Space with Polygonal Shapes

The American Mathematical Monthly, 2020
A proof is given, for a large class of polygons, of a conjecture of Shier concerning his algorithm for the disjoint but otherwise random placement of successively smaller copies of an arbitrary sha...

Analysis of uniformly-spaced coplanar embedded elliptical cracks

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1991
Abstract Stress intensity factors and crack opening displacements for coplanar embedded elliptical cracks uniformly-spaced in an infinite solid are determined for remote tensile loading by a three dimensional weight function method developed previously.

An elastic quarter space with an extending crack

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1996
The dynamic anti-plane problem of a crack extending from the corner of an elastic quarter space with a constant subsonic velocity due to sudden application of mechanical disturbances in the outer surfaces of the quarter space has been considered. The problem has been solved using the self-similarity technique, which is based on the observation that for
