Current State of Reflective Cracking in the United States
Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, 2017AbstractReflective cracking is the most common type of distress for composite pavements that employ a hot-mix asphalt surface course over a portland cement concrete slab. Reflective cracking left untreated is known to contribute to a rougher and noisier ride and to hasten the premature failure of the surface material at or near joints.

Cracks in the “Regulatory State”
Social Currents, 2015Over the last 30 years, the U.S. states has retreated from its regulatory responsibility over private-sector economic activities. Over the same period, a celebratory literature, mostly in political science, has developed, characterizing the current period as the rise of the regulatory state or regulatory capitalism.

A Yoffe crack/cohesive zone model for a steady state moving crack
Mechanics Research Communications, 2016Abstract A Yoffe crack/cohesive zone model is presented to investigate steady state crack propagation in an infinite medium. In the current model, the rear crack tip closes and a cohesive zone exists only at the front crack tip during crack propagation, which eliminates the dilemma in the standard Yoffe crack/Dugdale zone model that the crack length ...

Crack path kinking under generalized stress state
Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2009Results of experimental investigations of three-point asymmetric bending applied to beams made of materials with substantially different structural, strength, and strain characteristics are presented. The effect of different types of fracture on the formation of crack kinks under a generalized stress state is revealed.

Stressed state near cracks in elastic media
Journal of Soviet Mathematics, 1993A modification of the known nonlinear Barenblatt-Leonov-Panasyuk model of cracks is given, which allows us to obtain a continuous distribution of tensions near cracks in conditions of finite deformations and smooth closings of their boundaries. Functional relations of formation and increase of cracks are given, which assume their experimental checking ...

Crack propagation during steady state creep
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1975Abstract A model is proposed tor the steady propagation of a creep crack under steady state creep conditions. Creep is envisaged to take place everywhere in the solid, though higher creep rates at the crick tip lead to a local concentration of the creep strain.

Steady-State Crack Propagation in Pressurized Pipelines
Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 1977Previous work at Battelle-Columbus on the development of a theoretical model for unstable crack propagation and crack arrest in a pressurized pipeline is extended in this paper by including the effect of backfill. The approach being developed involves four essential aspects of crack propagation in pipelines. These four components of the problem are: 1 –

Steady-state cracking in ceramic matrix composites
Composites Science and Technology, 1990Abstract The problem of steady-state cracking in which the crack extends under a constant load is investigated for two interface conditions: elastic (no slip) and frictional interface. The fiber, matrix and interface stresses in the cracked and uncracked regions of a unidirectional composite subjected to remote axial stress are obtained using an ...

Journal of Addictive Diseases, 1992
The paper presents a standard against which treatments should be measured; it recognizes the importance of a biopsy-chosocial approach to crack addiction, individualized assessment of patients to determine their needs, matching patients to interventions of appropriate intensity, timing the delivery of specific interventions in accordance with the phase

Stress-strain state of microinhomogeneous cracked plates
Materials Science, 1996For the model of a microinhomogeneous body, we determine the distribution of efficient (averaged over microvolumes) components of the stress tensor and study the effects of the parameters of rigidity of the material in micro- and macrovolumes, the dimensions of the selected volume, and the angle of application of the external load on the value of ...
