Effects of Stress State, Crack—γ/γ′ Phase Interface Relative Locations and Orientations on the Deformation and Crack Propagation Behaviors of the Ni-Based Superalloy—A Molecular Dynamics Study

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
In this study, we systematically investigate the influence of stress states, relative locations, and orientations of crack—γ/γ′ phase interfaces on the deformation and crack propagation behaviors of the Ni-based superalloy through molecular dynamics ...

Establishing model uncertainty of SLS reinforced concrete crack models applied to load-induced cracking

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2022
Although some research has been performed, serviceability limit state (SLS) concrete crack models have yet to be calibrated fully in probabilistic terms in structural design standards.

An Integral Formulation of Two-Parameter Fatigue Crack Growth Model

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
A two-parameter fatigue crack growth algorithm in integral form is proposed, which can describe the continuous crack growth process over the time period.

Microstructural modelling of creep crack growth from a blunted crack [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The effect of crack tip blunting on the initial stages of creep crack growth is investigated by means of a planar microstructural model in which grains are represented discretely. The actual linking-up process of discrete microcracks with the macroscopic

A numerical study of the effect of single overloads on plasticity induced crack closure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this work, the effect of single overloads on plasticity induced crack closure is studied. An elastic-plastic finite element model was developed and the crack opening level was calculated from the contact forces along the crack flank.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Finite element analyses of fatigue crack growth under small scale yielding conditions modelled with a cyclic cohesive zone approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mode I fatigue crack growth is modelled and investigated with a cohesive zone approach. A 2D finite element boundary layer model under plane strain and small scale yielding conditions is used to generate fatigue crack growth rate curves ...

Steady-state propagation of interface corner crack

open access: yesInternational Journal of Solids and Structures, 2013
Abstract Steady-state propagation of interface cracks in thin surface layers or thin films close to three-dimensional corners has been analyzed. Attention was focused on modeling the shape of the interface crack front and calculating the critical stress for steady-state propagation of the crack.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only
