The external excitation caused by random wind load can greatly affect the fatigue life of the wind power transmission system. A four-component model considering the wake effect is used to simulate the random wind speed of a wind farm, and combined with ...

Fatigue assessment and crack propagation of floorbeam cutout in orthotropic bridge decks
Based on the fatigue cracking of floorbeam cutout in a bridge, the field testing under random traffic flows was firstly conducted to investigate the fatigue crack initiation, and then a multi-scale numerical model, based on extended finite element method

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Is It Possible to Determine the Whole Crack Path at Once?
A brief review of crack path calculation methods using integral principles of mechanics is presented. In twodimensional setting, a crack is considered as a geodesic line on the surface of a body with a metric that depends on the initial stress state. The

A Method to Determine Energy and Power of a Fracture Process in Polycrystals by Means of HVTEM
Main crack propagation process in polycrystalline materials is very complex due to intercrystalline sliding mechanism effects. Multiple factors make it considerably difficult to analyze the state of stresses in the crack tip within the theoretical scope ...
